coon 1. Cocoon is the name of the movie. In real life cocoons are used to change forms, caterpillars use them to change into butterflies. In the movie the old people use the pool to get younger, not in appearance but in health. Also, the aliens are in cocoons to survive. 2. In the opening scene, dolphins look up in the sky and a bright light shines down on them. The movie starts out that way to show fantasy, to show that aliens are in the movie. Also, it shows that there has something to do with the water. 3. The movie ends the way it does to show that the aliens are leaving. It ends that way to show that the aliens and the old people are leaving to go somewhere else. This leaves the movie open to a sequel. It also ends the same place it began. 4. Walter, played by Brian Dennehy, has three scenes that describe him. The first scene is when he decides to let some of the men to use his pool. This scene shows that he really does care for the human race. Even though he knows he shouldn’t he still lets them swim. Another scene is when he finds all the old people in his pool destroying everything. At first he is extremely angry, and then when one of the aliens dies and he realizes what it is like to lose someone he cares for. Than in a later scene he forgives the older people and allows all of them to come along on the trip back to his planet. These scenes show that even though he is different he still cares and is a lot like a human. 5. The theme of the movie is youth. The first important scene to contribute to the theme is when the older men realize what the pool water does to them. Joe’s cancer goes into remission. Another scene is when Bernard’s wife dies and all he wants is his wife to come back. He begs the aliens to help but they can’t. the final scene is when all the older people decide to go on the trip back to the planet. This shows that they all want to
