The cable companies get away with this by claiming they do not have competition, cities award them the contract by providing coverage, even though they may not have the lowest price. So who’s to say that state regulators from unofficially granting a monopoly to a provider with incentives? The monopolies set their price high, politicians reap the rewards and were forced to take it and like it, or go without. Other monopolies that doing business in this manner are electric companies, transportation and telephone companies. He dismisses this argument by listing other activities that could be harmful to an individual such as smoking tobacco, riding motorcycles, and having unprotected sex. This comparison makes the idea of prohibiting these activities because they are harmful to the individual participating in them seem rather ridiculous. Basically, illegal drugs CAN be harmful to a user; at the same time, smoking tobacco IS harmful to a user, yet smoking cigarettes is perfectly legal. I think Huemer’s argument effectively defeats the prohibitionists’ standpoint that drugs should be outlawed because they are harmful to the user. Second, the author addresses the prohibitionist argument that illegal drugs cause harm to people around the user as well.

After reading this article over and over again, I can found that this article is not well written because of several reasons such as fallacy and propaganda techniques. One of the propaganda techniques that the writer used is dysphemism. The dysphemism technique that I find in paragraph 2 line 1 which the sentence is “To some people - I refer to them as California Health Fascists - this makes me a fool who is recklessly endangering his health.” The usage of the word ‘fascists’ shows that the writer wanted to persuade people to think negatively about the nutritionist who says coffee is bad for health.
Current and potential E-cig users believe the manufacturer’s claims to be the truth because the users are searching for a healthier alternative to tobacco cigarettes. The companies who sell and make these devices are telling the public that it is a way to quit smoking tobacco products, but do not blatantly claim it to be a cessation device. Instead, he focuses on the ownership of property and most importantly, how people use it as a tool to get to the top and have jurisdiction over the markets, and thus over the poor.

All in all the cigarette companies have only brought down the levels of tar and cyanide in cigarettes but have not really made much progress in making a “safer cigarette.” Through all these efforts and all the ages of trying, cigarettes are still harmful to the human body.
