Genetics can sometimes run in families is one cause to the start of mental illnesses. Infections, brain defects or injury, prenatal damage, substance abuse, and other factors are the other five factors to mental illnesses. Yates battled depression for years; the cause of her actions for drowning her children were caused by postpartum psychosis triggered by the improper use of her meds, not listening to what her doctor had to say after her treatment, and lack of knowing any coping techniques. Postpartum depression can take up to a year after the child’s birth before the mother would even notice any signs of depression. If left untreated it can have dire consequences.
Maria Worrall aged 78years had been diagnosed with Alzheimer’s and had suffered several falls; she had ended up bed bound and admitted to hospital. Whilst at hospital it was agreed that Maria would need to go into a nursing home as she was no longer able to do anything for herself and needed to be cared for. Jane Worrall cared for her mother for a little while she would do all the dressing, bathing and cooking. Jane fell pregnant and wasn’t able to manage the care her mother needed anymore so she had looked at several homes and liked the look of ash court and from the ratings on the internet from the CQC were giving an excellent
Ethical: Ethical Case Study Reflection Sherry Turley NURS 3010: Introduction to Higher Education in Nursing Janice Beeken October 30, 2012 Ethical: Ethical Case Study Reflection The ethical case study involving Mary, John and their ill child is a powerful example of how ethical issues can complicate patient care and effect patient outcomes. Cultural, legal, and ethical issues occur in all healthcare settings. I felt particularly impacted by this case study as I am relatively new to the emergency room and to date have not encountered an ethical dilemma of this magnitude. As a nurse, I care for patients from all walks of life. Many of whom have beliefs that differ and may even conflict with my own.
During my depressed stage, I couldn’t help but dwell on a lot of “what-if” scenarios. For example, “If I would have encouraged her to exercise more or eat better, she would have not been in this position she is now.” These kinds of thoughts would haunt me for days and cause me to lose sleep at night. I would constantly reminisce on the way my wife used to be prior to the heart attack and I would concentrate on that, rather than thinking of ways how I can work to get her
Effectiveness affects the healthcare quality because with the science and knowledge needed to prevent CLABSI, it continues to occur more than it should. It lies in the healthcare staff’s hands to be able to prevent CLABSI from occurring and use of effective science and knowledge to maintain sterile technique when inserting a catheter. Patient centeredness is affected by central line infections because the healthcare staff is not fully giving their quality of care to the patient when inserting a catheter, maintaining
According to Ulrich and Zimring there are 600 articles that explain that the healthcare design can influence patient outcomes are published. When a hospital has a stressful environment to the patient’s healing process with loud intercom systems and machinery, long hallways that echo, bland colors and cramped rooms, it contributes to the patients stress level. These things will hinder a patients healing ability. Promoting and allow the patient to experience their spirituality and assisting them if needed will promote healing by allowing them a feeling of control and familiarity as being at
I spoke to the patients associate staff nurse, as I felt these visits seemed almost pointless and I wasn’t even sure if Sally was religious, but could not decline the chaplain due to her lack of capacity. The staff nurse explained that when Sally first came to the ward, before her dementia had rapidly deteriorated, she used to request and enjoy the company of the hospital chaplain. These visits had been present for a few years now, and although Sally’s mental state has declined, the staff nurse said she felt it important that she carried on her wishes as this helped maintain their identity and individuality. I was pleasantly surprised to learn this, as although Sally did not show much happiness from the visits from the hospital chaplain, knowing she used to, helped me to why they carried it on. This experience has shown me the importance of the service the hospital chaplain’s provide to some patient’s life, not just for their cultural and spiritual needs but their social needs as well.
There use is to be encouraged. The use of retail clinic are a respond to the high cost of accessing care and the long wait times at doctor offices and hospitals for urgent care. They are seen as a loss of revenue to doctor offices and hospital. They are a great way to address the issue of access to healthcare. A number of hospitals have formed partnerships or open their own care clinics to address this need.
MEDICARE Medicare and health care are two intertwined words that mean professional treatment on an illness or injury. The delivery and consumptions of this care is a series of the complicated process that needs a lot of monitoring. It includes diagnosis, treatment, prevention, rehabilitation and general palliative care. Qualified individuals deliver this care within organizations, ranging from hospitals to commercial organizations such as pharmaceutical companies, government bodies and non-governmental organizations. During the delivery of these healthcare services, resources available are scarce while their demand gradually increases.
I also possessed a strong interest in making a difference in people's lives with my caring attitude and compassion, I can lift his or her mood a cheery chat. Therefore, out of the numerous fields that we discussed and explored at Medical Explorers, I decided that pursuing a career in nursing would fulfil my interests the best. I researched during my own time to learn more about the vocation, and one of the first aspects of nursing that I learned was that there is a dearth of nurses in the nation's hospitals, which reduces the optimal amount of time and attention the nurse can administer for each patient. Patients are able to receive the best care if the nurses are able to pay thorough attention to each and every patient. So, because of the shortage of nurses, nursing will provide me a plethora of chances to interact with patients in order to offer them my undivided attention and caring assistance.
