Cardiac Catheterization Lab Nurses have several different roles that involve various critical thinking skills and require flexibility. These nurses are performing tasks such as acquiring and maintaining patients’ records, updating patients’ charts, executing a needs assessment, organizing patients for medical procedures, monitoring patients’ vital signs, operating treatment equipment, administering Intravenous therapy, medicating patients according to physician instructions, conducting and participating in Cardiac specific research projects and educating other healthcare professionals about Cardiac Catheterization. As a Cardiac Catheterization Lab Nurse, you may specialize in procedures that involve coronary arteries that take place in state of the art labs. In this specialty, you’ll have the opportunity to work with the latest technology in cardiac care. In this field you are providing care to patients in Intensive Care Units, Cardiac Care Units, or Cardiac Catheterization Lab until they are discharged. 1. How are nurses providing comfort for patients in the area? Nurses are providing comfort for the patients in the catheterization lab by making the patient feel safe and calm. Nurses provide comfort to the patient by ensuring that the patient understands the procedure. Providing comfort is definitely within the nurses’ scope of practice today. Nurses are the ones in direct contact with their patients, providing relief from certain discomforts, continuously assessing, monitoring and providing care that will ensure the client is at ease. Comfort is the desirable state that nurses would want for their patients. 2. What other personnel work in the area of observation?
