We hear from the civil wars around the world about kidnapping. For example, many children were kidnapped in Liberia, Sierra Leone, The Congo, Burundi, just to mentioned a few, and later trained them to be child soldiers. Another characteristic of the Dirty War that we see today in everyday life is torture. Again, in the war torn countries, we hear of people who are captured and tortured due to wars. In Liberia, during the civil war, many people were captured and parts of the bodies were chopped off.
But lives are not. We must spare people the ordeal of war, mutilations and death for the sake of conflict diamonds”(Conflict Diamonds-UN- 1). Conflict diamonds and African customs are powerful enough and most likely to tear a family apart. In Barbara Kingsolver’s novel The Poisonwood Bible the Price family is torn apart because of African customs, similarly, conflict diamonds separate and displace many African families. Diamond conflicts began with a small, yet important, discovery of a “pretty pebble” along the banks of the Orange River in South Africa in 1867 (Saari 1).
When his family was wiped out by Mexicans and bounties of $25-100 were offered for Apache scouts, he rebelled, stating that, “His heart would ache for revenge.” As a cunning warrior, he led effective guerilla campaigns against the settlers, army and Mexicans for 35 years. This film deftly details the determined efforts of a small Chiricahua Apache band to resist the encroachment into their land of Mexicans, miners, ranchers, farmers, settlers and the U.S. government, as they sought to exploit it for profit and settlement. This is a familiar tragic tale in US history, but, in this case, the harsh treatment and intensity of hatred were exceptional in the wars against the Apaches. As documented with haunting black & white photos, letters, books, journals and newspaper accounts, it is an unpleasant story of cruelty, prejudice and betrayal. The government eventually won the war and moved the Apaches as prisoners to unhealthy reservations far away in Florida and later Oklahoma.

Hours later, Duvalier was charged with his alleged crimes which include, theft and misappropriation of hundreds of millions of dollars, which he and his first wife took with them to France 25 years ago. The 2010 earthquake took more than 250,000 lives, so the government can hardly handle what is already on their plate.
Several modern rulers (from everyday fathers to leaders of the country) have begun as ‘brave soldiers’ and ended as crazy destroyers because of their poor choices and the consequences. Psychologists have shown us that, behind seemingly straightforward human motives (good or bad), there are often extremely complicated emotions and intentions. From Macbeth killing practically everyone in his life for his own gain, to the armed robberies and riots happening all over the world, we see greed, violence and people struggling with the concept of right and wrong in our everyday lives, no matter how far we think we’ve come from Macbeth. Lately we’ve been hit by a tidal wave of armed robberies. From general stores to petrol stations and even a train station in Perth has come under attack from guns and knives.

It is often said that “art” imitates “life”. In our analysis of these two works of literature we can see “art” imitating “life”. Those in charge will always be corrupt because in order for the few “haves” to maintain their way of life, those who “have not” must be tricked into believing something. We are soon introduced to this theme of corruption in Suzzane Collins “The Hunger Games” when we first learn of what the hunger games are. Many years before this story takes place a world war had devastated the Earth and its population.
