The temperature approaches zero degrees Fahrenheit. The trees in the woods to my right glisten as the sun shines off their frozen, snow covered branches. I approach the curve ahead at fifty miles per hour and dig my skis into the icy, packed snow below. At an elevation of over five thousand feet, the view is breathtaking as I look out over the cliff ahead. The picturesque countryside includes snow-capped mountains, wooded valleys and small towns nestled in between. Skiing is my passion. I ski whenever I can and love every minute I spend on the mountain. My parents are the only family I have in the U.S. As such, I am the only person in my family who has ever skied. I was once invited by my closest friend to attend a family ski trip. After noticing my instant love for the sport, I was invited to join them every year on various ski trips around the country. I love feeling one with nature, experiencing the many sights, and the thrill associated with fast but controlled speed. Mostly, however, I enjoy having companions with whom I can share these experiences. This is part of which makes me unique, as most skiers enjoy the quiet blanketing the slopes. Although I find satisfaction in solitude on the mountain enjoyable as well, I enjoy the calm feeling as I share these experiences and bond with my companions on the slopes.
