Benefits of Homeschooling: A Better Academic Choice One of the most important decisions a parent makes is how to educate their child. Parents have a moral and legal right to decide which form of education best serves the interest of their children. A vast number of parents are choosing homeschool methods over the traditional education methods of the public schooling system. The reason for the growing popularity of home education is simple; the public and traditional school systems are placing our children in a physically and morally dangerous environment, which destroys the self-esteems of our children. Home education eliminates the dangerous environment allowing children to focus on their academics. Higher academic scores help build a child’s self-esteems rather than destroying it. Homeschooling advantages and benefits outweigh those of traditional schools by producing happier, well-rounded children. Home education has grown some 75 percent since 1999 (Shilling 2009). Yet, while home education continues to grow, some parents are still choosing public or more traditional methods of schooling. Public and traditional schooling methods seem to provide a sense of security. Several decades ago, fathers were the only working parent within the household and were able to provide for the entire family. Mothers on the other hand stayed home, taking care of the house and children. However, this is not decades ago and more often than not it takes two incomes to provide for the family. In today’s time families were both parents have to work to support the family, parents may feel public or traditional schools is the only option available. The cost of home education is just an added expense which parents feel they cannot afford.
