The armor of God is often read as though it is a metaphor. Well I think that the armor of God is a mindset and true spiritual defense. I, in the following, will be discussing what each piece of armor’s purpose is and what it represents. But first, let’s take a look at what the scripture says so we have a starting point. “13 Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand. 14 Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place, 15 and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace. 16 In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. 17 Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God. 18 And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the saints” (Eph 6:13-18) In this passage we have Paul speak of putting on the full armor of God in order to protect ourselves from the evil one, and stand firm in your faith. This is an important statement because it says, in my interpretation of course, “Put on the full armor of God, so that when evil comes your way you will be able to stand, and after it’s long gone you will still be able to stand firm.” There are many preachers and evangelists that have great ministries and then they retire and turn to worldly things and forget about the reality of God because they had never put on the full armor of God.
