Some STDs have been linked to an increased risk of certain cancers and infection with human immunodeficiency virus (HIV). Pregnant women’s can spread STDs to their babies. Many people may not have symptoms of an STDs but are still able to spread an infection. STD testing can help find problems early on so that treatment can begin if needed. It is important to practice safe sex with all partners, especially if you or they have high-risk sexual behaviors.
It can also refer to behaviour that impacts a person's ability to control their sexual activity or the circumstances in which sexual activity occurs, including oral sex, rape or restricting access to birth control and condoms. It can happen to men, women and even children. Sexual abuse can happen to anyone at any age. Sexual abuse is one of the most common types of abuse that happens within the UK in "2009/10, 2010/11 and 2011/12 on average 2.5 per cent of females and 0.4 per cent of males said that they had been a victim of a sexual offence in the previous 12 months. This represents around 473,000 adults being victims of sexual offences (around 404,000 females and 72,000 males) on average per year.
Chlamydia can also infect newborn babies if the mother is infected. The disease will infect the eye and might cause permanent blindness. This disease, as well as all other STDs, often go untreated because of the embarrassment that comes along with contracting it. Not many people would want to have sex with a person knowing that their sex partner has chlamydia, but unfortunately the disease's silence disguises the harmful nature of a partners vaginal or penile region. Also, person who had been treated for chlamydia previously still runs the risk of being re-infected with the disease.
Certain cancers, illnesses, and diseases also affect different populations, so it is important to determine the population affected before studies can come into play. Perfect example, as stated in the text, is that cervical cancer only pertains to women, while prostate cancer only affects men. But lung cancer can affect both genders, and a variety of ages. (Riegelman, 2010) Any type of epidemic, from a flu, to a typical cold virus can also be determined and monitored through epidemiology. An epidemic is specific to one city, region or country, and an epidemic occurs when the number of people who become infected rises well beyond what is expected within a country or a part of a country.
Michael Willbon Ms. Veach 25 September 2011 Chlamydia Chlamydia is a sexually transmitted disease (STD) caused by the bacterium chlamydia trachomatis. Chlamydia is one of the most common STDs in the world and is the most frequently reported bacterial STD in the US. In 2009 there was a reported 1,244,180 chlamydial infections but due to under-reporting, an estimated 2.8 million are infected each year in the US. Symptoms are often not noticeable or minimal so it is hard to detect if you have Chlamydia but serious complications can occur if it is not treated, so make sure to get regular check-ups by your doctor. Chlamydia can be transmitted during the act of vaginal, anal, or oral sex.
It is also believed that vaccines are causing autism. Though I concede that getting vaccinated can be somewhat dangerous, I still maintain the idea that they should not be the sole reason to blame for the fact that children are being diagnosed with autism. There has been no concrete evidence that there is a direct correlation between being immunized and this neurological disorder. Generally administered to toddlers 12-15 months old, the extremely common vaccine for measles, mumps, and rubella, (MMR) supposedly causes a gastrointestinal syndrome in children that are more susceptible. Such syndrome allows unspecified toxins to be released into the bloodstream, thus triggering autism.
