Abraham Lincoln, the 16th president of the United States, freed the slaves with the passing of the emancipation proclamation. Lincoln was assassinated and died on April 14, 1865. Another great man named Martin Luther King Jr., during the civil rights movement of 1960’s, brought about many needed changes in America. He too was assassinated and died on April 4, 1968.
