Dr. Adams gets pretty cocky because he did a C-Section with a small little knife. But then everyone sees the woman's husband.
They wake her up early and help her stretch her legs in hope that they will one day be straight/normal. They showed the compassion that her birth mother would never give to her child. Linda later recalls, “I must have been held so much that the sensation became a part of me”(65). Fifty years later when Linda and her mother Nancy finally meet for dinner, they don’t hug or even shake hands. The mother may be the birth mother and be related by blood but she sure doesn’t show any love toward her handicapped daughter that she abandoned.
“Of course, you can be a prodigy, too,’ my mother told me when I was nine. ‘You can be best anything.” (Tan 1) Here, in the beginning of the story, Jing-mei Woo’s mother is telling her she can be anything she wants to be in America. This is important to the plot because it is the beginning of the story and it is setting Jing-mei’s mother’s expectations of her very high. It shows how much her mother truly believes in her. Bad parenting often leads to the child disliking the parent and sometimes rebelling.

Following up on a series of clues, the women manage to reconstruct Minnie Wright’s motive. In silent collusion, Mrs. Hale and Mrs. Peters choose not to disclose the clues that reveal the motive, thereby constituting themselves as a jury and tacitly acquitting Minnie of any wrongdoing. “No Name Woman” is an autobiography written by Maxine Hong Kingston relates how on the night when her aunt gave birth to an illegitimate child. "By day and by night his tyranny grows harsher... lets no daughter go free to her mother... lets no girl go free to her bridegroom." (George, I, 3-4). Women, on the other hand, play many more roles than men in this classic and make subtle, but key decisions to greatly change the course of the story. Take Ninsun, the mother of Gilgamesh, for example. She plays the role of the loving, caring mother and also that of the wise counselor that provides guidance.

Parents seek desirable husbands for their daughter and send her away to live with him and her in-laws’. Mothers start teaching their daughters at a young age how to cook, clean, and how their future husband should be taken care of. Once they are married they then take on the role of being a 24/7 housewife who does everything around the house while waiting on everyones hand and foot. The husbands then go finish college get a job and “bring home the money.” This a real life situation that is occurring everyday not only in India but also other parts of the world and my strongly believe that needs to change. I personally do not follow this “rule” because I want to have a great future with a career where I will be treated with respect by all including men.
