Analysis of Metaphor in an Area Outside of Literature essay By: Bonnie Wilson National University Effective College English 1 Jan 2013 It was like talking to a brick wall Vs. The meaning is right there in the words Some days my mother is so absorbed in her thoughts she can’t hear a word I’m saying to her. My brother has an altered form of the same problem. He can’t actually hear you when he doesn't like what you’re saying. He’s even developed a little tune he hums to himself, which is a dead giveaway that he has tuned you out. These are automatic forms of miscommunication. You could also call it a lack of communication, or poor communication skills, or frankly ignoring. Depending on your observations, what you read in my essay will help you decide my true agenda. It will be as unique to you as your dental records are, right? Obviously, what you've been through and what you expect (and even what you don’t expect) are all unique experiences only you can relate to. In other words, everyone comes away from a reading (and experience) with different interpretations based on their own personal associations to those words (or experiences). I believe there is a blind eye being turned to the problems that exist in our society. Perhaps this belief has developed because of the abuse, neglect, or disregard of the importance of learning these skills while I was growing up. I personally do not recall any education in communication techniques in grades K-12. Our education system does not emphasize the importance of good communication skills.
