Zubair Abedin Block 4 The theme of the story Fahrenheit 451 written by Ray Bradbury is censorship. They live in the future where books are banned and the people are uneducated. If people have books in there possession then they’re in danger of getting in trouble by the authority. The main character of this book is Guy Montag who is a fireman, but in the future firemen start fires instead of putting them out, they start the fires in places that have books in them. Government should not be able to make personal decisions for society because it disrupts lifestyles and ultimately does not benefit people.
These industrial activities have raised atmospheric gases such as carbon dioxide which contribute to greenhouse gases. The extra amount of these gases mean there is a thicker layer, meaning the gases absorb outgoing long-wave radiation which traps in too much heat. Increasing amounts of CO₂, methane, nitrous oxide, water vapour and ozone all contribute to this. The main cause in this rise is the burning of fossil fuels such as coal, oil, natural gas and petrol. Since the industrial revolution the levels of atmospheric CO₂ have increased from 280 parts per million to 380ppm for the past 10,000.
Then the setting describes an evening sky that had turned red, yellow and black, as he saw burning books turning into sparkling whirls and blew away causing the wind to turn black. This story takes place in a futuristic time, they lived in a controlled environment where they lacked freedom and they weren’t allowed to have books, TV’s and etc… and they also lacked choices. (page.1) 2. The setting creates a strong sorrow feeling, just knowing a whole society is being controlled due to town laws. The mood sort of feels very sad and empty to where they have
They accused the Jews of trying to destroy the Christians. Some people even believed that the plague was caused by pockets of bad air released by earthquakes or by an unfavorable alignment of Saturn, Jupiter, and Mars. (Kreis, Steven, 2006. “Satan Triumphant: The Black Death”) People wouldn’t bathe for fear of opening pores and thus allowing the epidemic to spread to themselves, and had poor hygiene in general. Some doctors even thought that bad odors would get rid of the disease so they smeared feces and urine on their patients, which produced the opposite effect, and spread the disease.
Secondary effects include respiration problems from the plumes of smoke, land slides from soil erosion, and economic losses. As the fires burn large plumes of smoke begin to saturate the air and make the quality of air very poor for breathing. According to (usgs.gov) over 70% of people were affected by respiratory problems from poor air quality in and around the San Diego area during the 2007 wildfires. Another secondary impact of wildfires is soil erosion. Soil erosion occurs when the land is depleted of valuable nutrients making it susceptible to landslides and mudslides in the wet
As a result, many trucks have to travel to and fro the mining site to supply the water and other amenities causing dust pollution and soil erosion on the dirt roads. Chemicals used in the fracking process are able to sip through cracks in the rocks and the soil and contaminate any water sources they meet. This water finds its way into the community or cities. When consumed, these chemicals can lead to cancer, defects in newly-born babies and disorders in the nervous system. Large amounts of methane and other poisonous gases released into the air from the gas wells contribute to heavy air pollution and global warming.
I stepped on the brake, and suddenly the car started to slide on the slick pavement. We plunged off the road and slid to the bottom of a ditch. Pale and shaking, I quickly turned to check if `Alexis was all right. When she nodded, I relaxed and looked through the rain soaked windows. “I’m going to see how bad it is”, I told Alexis, and when out into the storm.
Since the beginning of human civilization and the Industrial Revolution, mankind has lived in a competitive relationship with nature. Human tendency to exert a negative influence on ecology has resulted in rapid increases in the greenhouse gases in the atmosphere. Evidence has proven that “since 1900, the global surface temperature of the Earth has risen about 0.8 Celsius (see fig. 1).” As data have shown, temperature has been increasing ever since the period of Industrial Revolution (after the year 1840 to 1850). We then, can assume the reason for the increasing temperature was resulted from industries, over-powering energy with coal during that specified time period.
Fuel combustion and automobile transportation are two large factors of air pollution. Both factors release a production of heat and chemicals into the atmosphere causing for an excessive amount of wasted heat. Furthermore, the problem of extra heat leads to the production of a number of harmful health issues and environmental scrutiny. Global warming, global community has long been a vocal advocate and critic of the National Institutes of Health (NIH). Hundreds of disease oriented and professional health provider organizations have provided pollution, smog, and ozone layer damaging are all results of air pollution.
Socialism impacted Western Europe as a counter to the ideology of liberalism and it continues to impact the world today as aspects of socialism are part of not just European nations, but also part of the United States. The Industrial Revolution lead to an influx of new ideologies as societies began rapidly changing with the new increases in technology that spurred changes in lifestyles. The so-called Big Bang of the Industrial Revolution was James Watt’s invention of the steam engine. Steam engines saw widespread commercial use driving machinery in factories, mills, and mines, and later in propelling transport appliances such as railway locomotives, ships, and road vehicles. The use of the steam engine in agriculture lead to an increase in the land available for cultivation.
