A Girl Like Me I found the video a girl like me to be very effective using the elements of ethos, pathos, and logos. I would rate the video on a scale of 1 - 10 of a 10. I found the interviewer and the participants to be very believable because right of the bat they did not fit the stereotypical outside appearance of what is perceived pretty on African American women nor did they act like the typical model of what people perceive African American women to be. A person would not find it very believable if they had African American young women who could pass for a Caucasian young woman who was of lighter complexion and had naturally straight hair speaking about being discriminated against because they were extremely dark compared to other African Americans and talking about how kinky their hair was. It just would not be believable coming from that demographic. I found my level of pathos to be extremely strong. I think my strong connection to the young women in the video is because I could relate to them by physical appearance and experiences. I identified with all aspects of the video but I felt the young woman’s pain who spoke of her mother’s reaction on the second day that she started wearing her hair in a natural non-relaxed manner because most of my family members hassle me about my non-relaxed hair. It felt as though I could feel their hurt and pain as they spoke of their experiences. It caused me tremendous pain, discomfort, hurt, and I was offended to watch those small children participate in the doll study. I found the logos to be very effective. Since the participants physical appearances personified what they spoke of and they seemed knowledgable about what they spoke
