At this point in history the Persian Empire was colossal it was the largest ancient Empire ever known and it was looking to expand its territory into Greece. The event that took place on December 7, 1941 in the movie clip from the USS Arizona memorial shows, Pearl Harbor Attack were so unexpected so brutal and chaotic, that always will be a very significant event in America and world history. Pelsaert, being the commandeer went to seek help from the port of Batavia with 30 others at his side as it was some 1,200 miles away. They left behind 268 castaways including Jacobsz and Cornelisz. In the first week many people died of starvation and thirst. Then Cornelisz constructed plan and convinced a small group of followers that there only chance of survival was to kill off everyone else and wait for Pelsaert to return and set off with the rescue vessel or if he didn’t return they would just build a new ship out of the wreckage. After moving a group of 45 soldiers to a nearby island under false pretences Cornelisz’ followers began to kill off people that posed a threat to them or caused any trouble.
Germany continued to violate the United States demands and continued to sink vessels and kill the innocent Americans onboard. America then entered World War I on April 6, 1917. America’s military was unprepared to offer the Allies much help in the form of troops because the army was only able to gain only around 100,000 troops at the time of America’s entry into the war. To remedy this, President Wilson adopted the Selective Service Act. By the time the war ended on November 11, 1918 more than 2 million Americans served on the battlefields of Western Europe and around 50,000 of them lost their lives in battle.
Under Pericles leadership, Athens refused to back down and this war started. After 10 years of war, a truce cane in 421, but only lasted until 415. The last straw was when the Athenians launched a massive attack on Sicily. The expedition consisted of Athens, led by Alcibiades) attacking Sicily because they were the food providers for Sparta. Almost the whole Athenian army and navy was sent to cut off the supplies, however the plans backfired and Athens was greatly affected and barely recovered its military, finally in 405 the Spartan navy defeated Athenians in the battle of
In 498 BCE, Athens carried out a terrorist attack on Sardis, a major Persian city, which made 9/11 seem like child's play. Aristagoras, an Athenian, set fire to the "outlying parts" of Sardis trapping most of its population "in a ring of fire." (Herodotus 5:101) More innocent civilians died at the hands of Aristagoras than Osama bin Laden could ever hope to kill. And just as most of the world supported America's retaliation against Al Qaeda, so did it rally in support of Persia's attack on Athens. The Spartans were not even targets of Persia's attack, until they violated a universal protocol by killing a Persian messenger who Herodotus claims was asking for Sparta's submission but in reality was probably sent by Persia's king, Xerxes to convey the same message America sent to the entire world after 9/11: "you're either with us, or against us."
A story is told of a man, Achilles, a warrior, unlike any seen before; he fights in a war that ends in his tragic death and the downfall of a city of greatness which finally perished in fire. The city is named Troy and the war includes a 10 year siege laid by the Greeks over a conflict that began with a woman and her love for a man. Not just any man but a Prince Paris of Troy. The legends were originally thought to be almost entirely fiction, but over time historians have collected enough evidence to create doubt about how much of the tale is more than just myth. The saga has been retold for hundreds of years and has become even harder to trace back to truth because of the many views on the account mainly by Homer’s take on the event in his fictions The Odyssey and The Iliad.
