Christian Mejia 7/10/2013 300 In the Battle of Thermopylae of 480 BC an alliance of Greek city-states fought the invading Persian army in the mountain pass of Thermopylae. Vastly outnumbered, the Greeks held back the enemy in one of the most famous last stands of history. Persian King Xerxes lead a Army of well over 100,000 (Persian king Xerxes before war has about 170,000 army) men to Greece and was confronted by 300 Spartans, and several hundred Arcadians. Xerxes waited for 10 days for King Leonidas to surrender or withdraw left with no options he moved. The battle lasted for about 3 days and after which all 300 Spartans were killed. The Spartan defeat was not the one expected, as a local shepherd, named Ephialtes, defected to the Persians and informed Xerxes of a separate path through Thermopylae, which the Persians could use to outflank the Greeks. The Protagonist King Leonidas would be considered a hero in my eyes. Though throughout the course of the movie, with every person he killed he had a look of satisfaction as if he enjoyed killing. In which case that can lead to too an anti-hero in the eyes of others. The protagonists can relate to society because king Leonidas was a leader, and had to make tough choices in his time. Choices that got people killed choices that not everybody likes, just like today in our time. The president and the government must make a choice and no matter what choice is made, there will be a group of people who will not agree with it. There is no way to make everyone happy in today’s world and in the past as well. This film can relate to Greek history because it shows the battle that happened in 480BC in the battle of Thermopylae. Also shows the how the Greeks were outnumbered 300 to 100,000 soldiers, perhaps even more. The theme of the movie shows war, how the 300 Spartans go out to war outnumbered. Has a bit of doubt that
