In what has since been referred to as the “four freedoms” speech, Roosevelt describes the ongoing war in Europe and the United States’ inevitable role in it. He calls for an end to the isolationist foreign policy that had been in effect since the end of World War I a generation earlier. He explains that our freedom and our way of life are directly threatened by the spread of fascism, and though he does not intend to immediately send American soldiers into combat, that we must be prepared for anything. He states that our aid and support of European democracies (via the Lend Lease Act) are vitally important if we are to “maintain a free world.” Roosevelt states, as a message to the Axis powers, that “such aid is not an act of war”. However, he then clearly tells the nation that “if the dictators are ready to make war upon us, they will not wait for an act of war on our part.” Sensing the seemingly inevitable involvement in the war, he tells Americans that “we must all prepare to make the sacrifices that the emergency demands”, meaning that we must be militarily prepared for anything, and that the nation must be mentally prepared to make significant sacrifices.
US wanted to focus on itself and the problems they faced within the country, never mind foreign problems. It would be a citizens surprise that the United States became a world superpower at one point and was becoming involved much more in global events and issues. Some believe that the United States shifted from isolationism to being involved in war for self-defense reasons while other say its a combination of economic reasons and self-defense. It began due to the bombing of Pearl Harbor and ever since then the US has not been for isolationism. The country then feared the spread of communism which lead into more global involvement.
Anyone (although public figures were primarily targeted) could have been involved in communist activities – a prevalent fear in the minds of many American citizens – and therefore discriminated against. In view of the horrors of the war, the utter terror derived from the mere thought of America going communist, and the irrationality of the people, many historians chose to view the past with less harsh an eye. Many of America’s past follies were looked upon in a brighter light, as well as its faults made to seem more justified. In view of the foul events taking place, it was a natural reaction to look upon the past in a more positive manner. The cold war, for example, can be viewed a great many ways; however for 2 decades following WWII the Soviets were viewed as the aggressors when plenty of evidence (such as many American missiles facing the border of the Soviet Union from bordering countries) is available to suggest that the Soviets were not the only justified in some of their actions but that the US was the real aggressor at times.
The potential for the disastrous rise of misplaced power exists and will persist.” The American public should refrain from gaining any negative or unauthorized influences by the military-industrial complex. The people should fight the military spending. Everything is eventually going to fail and be a disaster if power is given to the wrong people. The term MIC became widespread because of how it fit with what was going on with the military at the time. In American history, military spending was never high and consistent and now it was finally occurring.
Most of American society before the Pearl Harbor bombing believed in the idea of isolationism. Franklin D. Roosevelt knew this, and knew the only way in which United States countrymen would take arms and fight in Europe’s War was to be an overt action against the United States by a member of the Axis Power. Roosevelt also believed Hitler would not declare war on the United States unless he knew they were beatable. There are numerous accounts of actions by Roosevelt and his top armed forces advisors, which reveal they were not only aware of an attack by Japan, but also they were planning on it, and instigating that
The message of the representation is that Americans is losing the war and wants out and it is clearly shown in the poster "I WANR OUT". This shows that it is accurate because I know from my own personal knowledge that the 1971 protest in America were getting bigger, more violent and serious for the government. However, representation 3 is not totally accurate because not all of America were against the war. I know this because there was a huge questionnaire on if people were against or for the war. 40% said they were for the war and 60% said against the war.
But the Bush administration was so adamant that they would not give up. They said that war was a necessity for the safety of Americans. Even when the Iraq war was fought on the basis of Iraq’s chemical weapon capacity, President Bush always addressed the Iraq war as the war on terrors. He made the people believe that the Al-Qaeda was hiding in Iraq but it has been proved to be wrong. Many believe that the Iraq war was a fatal mistake and it actually heightened terrorist activities.

A terrorist threat/ attack and a nuclear threat are real attacks that still go on today in our country and our people are scared of. In my opinion both of them are alike. They make the government have to evaluate everything that is going on and it deters the economic growth in our community, on this causes the government to take advantage of their view of defense against an upcoming attack. A war and an attack such as 9/11 are two different types of attacks. And these are attacks that people will forever remember.
Wilson felt threatened of being seen as the bad guy and not entering the global conflict and with Roosevelt thinking of running for another term he had to make the critical decision (wiki). In WWII the US feared that not helping Europe in their time of need would come back to haunt them in the long run (politifact). Sure, pearl harbor was the deciding factor; but the US were still worried about a Europe united under communism affecting the US both economically, and politically; which is why we induced the Marshall plan after WWI
