I spent several days deliberating on just whom would be a delight to write about, someone that I might share some of the same values with, and also keep up my interest through this whole session. I finally came to choose a woman that uses her fame and clout, to achieve many good things for people around our country, and supports several causes that I myself find dear to my heart, Ellen DeGeneres. Ellen has used her notoriety and prowess, to accomplish many great things. From helping the everyday average working mother that is trying to make it through school, to helping animal rescues. In my opinion, there are many ways that one can utilize their wealth, but Ellen has turned her show, and her life into one big philanthropic endeavor. Ellen’s life began in Metairie, Louisiana on the 26th of January in 1958, to a father and an insurance salesman Elliot, and mother and a real estate agent Betty. She grew up, always in the shadows of her older, talented, funnier brother. Longing for the acceptance and the following her brother had, she strived to be more like him. Vance hitting the local rock scene, and later on to be the developer of the Saturday Night Live Play-Do character “Mr. Bill”, was not an easy act to follow. The parents of the DeGeneres’s divorced when Ellen was only between the ages of 13 to 16, and her mother Betty re-married to Ellen’s step-father, Roy Gruessendorf which led them to relocate to the small town Atlanta, Texas.
