Polycythemia is an increase in red blood cells, which would increase the viscosity and decrease flow. ACTIVITY 3 Studying the Effect of Blood Vessel Length on Blood Flow Rate 1. Which is more likely to occur, a change in blood vessel radius or a change in blood vessel length? Explain why. Increase in blood vessel radius is more likely to occur.
Hypothesis I predict that if the concentration of Hydrochloric acid is increased by 20%, the rate of reaction will also increase by 20%. This is because more molecules of Hydrochloric acid will be present, meaning there will be more molecules to react with. For particles to react, they must collide with one another, but for a successful collision, there must be enough energy for them to react. This is known as activation energy. Activation energy is defined as “the energy that an atomic system must acquire before a process (such as an emission or reaction) can occur”.
Reaction rate is affected by any catalysts present (which speed up the reaction usually with an intermediate step), temperature (increases the number of particles collisions), concentration (increases the number of collisions), and surface area (increases the space available for collisions). Reactions can only occur when collisions take place. The most generic form of the rate law is Rate = K * [A]m * [B]n where (k is a constant specific to an equation and temperature). Now, the compounds A and B might not have any effect on the rate, which would cause them to drop out of the equation completely, or they might have so much effect that they are raised an order (squaring the concentration). The rate law for this reaction is k [CV+]m[OH-]n. Since the hydroxide ion concentration at the beginning is about 1000 times larger than the concentration of crystal violet, [OH-] will not change that much during this
Case Study Questions: 1.) Explain the renin-angiotensin-aldosterone system. When the kidneys sense decreased profusion pressure, they try to increase this pressure by increasing blood volume through the renin-angiotension-aldosterone system. Once the decreased pressure is sensed renin is released, which increases conversion of angiotension to angiotension I. Angiotension I is in turn converted to angiotension II by the angiontension converting enzyme (ACE). Angiotension II causes vasoconstriction, which raises the blood pressure.
Any increase in the rate of reaction will cause an increase in the pressure of the oxygen. The first line of the graph (top) represents the normal rate of the reaction in a water solution of hydrogen peroxide and catalase. The second line represents the rate of reaction when acid is added to the solution and the third line represents the rate of reaction when a base is added to the solution. 1. What variable is plotted on the x-axis?
The second one could have iron +2 and copper +2. The third one could have used iron +3 and copper +1 and the last one could have iron +3 and copper +2 There are several factors that can influence the rate of a chemical reaction. In general, a factor that increases the number of collisions between particles will increase the reaction rate and a factor that decreases the number of collisions between particles will decrease the chemical reaction rate. The factors that can influence the rate of a chemical reaction are: the concentration of reactants, the temperature, the medium and the presence of catalyst and competitors. The higher the concentration of reactants is, the higher the rate of a chemical reaction is.
Purpose/ objectives: 1. To learn if food concentrations affect yeast activity 2. To improve skills in writing a lab report better 3. To practice measuring skills 4. To understand how yeast works Materials: * * 6 identical large test tubes (18 X 150mm) * 1 graduated cylinder (24ml) * Molasses stock solution ( 1:4- molasses: water) Dropper * Yeast suspension (1 gram of dry yeast in 100 mls water) * Aluminum foil * 1 test tube rack * 1 graduated cylinder (small) * 1 beaker * 6 small test tube (10 X 75mm) * Rule marked in millimeters Hypothesis: If you add more molasses to the yeast then the gas would became greater because the yeast cells reproduce so the waste became greater and
Time is one of factor that influence the dough rising. When the dough baking in the oven with sufficient time, it may allows the yeast to take longer time to work. Then, the more gas is created that cause the dough rising. The last factor is water. Water serves as a solvent which means it dissolves other ingredients such as salt, sugar and yeast to produce a solution.
Substances undergoing net diffusion are said to move down or with their concentration gradient. After time (dependant on the substance) the substance will become evenly distributed. This is what’s known as equilibrium, although random kinetic motion continues, there’s no further net diffusion. Certain attributes can affect diffusion, such as heat, this will make diffusion occur more rapidly due to transferring more energy to the molecules to move around faster. Also a larger concentration gradient produces a faster diffusion, and smaller molecules diffuse more rapidly than larger molecules.
The purpose of the experiment is to determine whether or not increasing temperature will increase the rate of the reaction. Reaction rate is a way of measuring how fast the reaction takes place. So the higher the reaction rate the faster the reaction takes place and the lower is the reaction time is. Research Question How does reaction rate change with increasing temperature of sodium thiosulphate in a reaction between hydrochloric acid (HCl(l)) and sodium thiosulphate (Na2S2O3(l)) ? Hypothesis With increasing temperature of sodium thiosulphate the reaction rate will increase as well.
