Nation’s Safety Gun control has remained an issue for several decades in U.S. It is legal for U.S citizens to possess weapons for their safety. People can protect themselves from robbers or killers if they are attacked, but the same weapons can also be used for assault instead of defense. Twenty-six U.S citizens died in Newton, Connecticut, because of a lack of gun control. Even though the U.S constitution in the second amendment has given the right to citizens to possess weapons, gun control laws should be strengthened to stop the supply of weapons to the wrong hands such as feral criminals, mentally ill people or children to avoid violent incidents, bloodshed and loss of several precious lives. Only the ones who are older than eighteen years should be allowed to possess guns. Dr. Jess P. Shakti, the director of undergraduate studies in child and adolescent mental health at New York University, said that young people are naturally impulsive and that their brains “are engineered to take risks,” making them ill-suited for handling guns. All weapons should be licensed each year. By enacting that regulation, the government will be able to withdraw weapons from those who have remained engaged in conflicts for insatiable appetite for revenge or have become mentally ill in past years. People should be allowed to buy and use the weapons with less power and with limited number of bullets. That way if a violent incident happens, it should not be that deadly. The right to possess weapons is beneficial for citizens only when used by sensible people in the right way, or else it can be hazardous to same citizens. The government should connive at the passing of certain laws to make sure that weapons are being used for their citizen's safety and to avoid any future violent
