A gun control initiative to be focused on would be stricter gun control laws and measures which would help crack down on gun crimes while encouraging responsible gun ownership and the use among civilians. Stricter gun control laws would also limit the ability for individuals with bad intentions from obtaining weapons, but it would allow responsible individuals from obtaining these weapons that others want to
People kill people” at the end of the day gun lobbyists, owners a like and the general public should advocate for laws that encourage buyers and owners to demonstrate that they can possess a firearm lawfully and responsibly. It is also wise for the general public to vote for leaders who will put their safety and needs first and not his or her political or other agendas in
The reduction of the crime rates following the reduction of gun-related violence can be used to justify gun control. However, the official statistics does not support this assumption. The reasoning that guns cause crimes arises numerous disputations, as it does not consider that guns are just another mean of committing a crime. Pro-gun advocates usually assert, “Guns do not kill people; people kill people.” The Vice President, Wayne Lapierre argued that the best solution to the Newton Massacre was to allow citizens to own guns. He stated”The only way to stop a bad guy with a gun is a good guy with a gun” (Spitzer,
In a country full of violent crime, the United States continues to embody the gun as integral to it's protection and culture. While the Second Amendment of the United States Constitution grants the people the right to bear arms, the people must on the contrary protect themselves from those who bear them. In my view, guns give people a false sense of security and are more of a nuisance than a benefit. Guns are a threat to the peace and safety of society. Therefore, since it is unlikely that all guns will disappear in the United States, legislation must be enacted to ban and cease the further manufacture of the types of firearms involved in more violent crime than all others; handguns and assault-weapons.
It also doesn’t make sense to blame an inanimate object rather than the individual behind it and the reasons why gun violence occurs. A gun is a tool, not unlike a car or knife. When a law-abiding citizen makes the decision to purchase a gun, it is usually for the purpose of self-defense. It evens the playing field between a victim and a potentially dangerous criminal. In the story “They Each Had a Gun,” Hannah LaMarca was robbed and assaulted with no way to defend herself.
There are definitely pros and cons for individual(s) being able to have a concealed weapon but in this case I am for people being able to carry a concealed weapon. Criminals are less likely to target a person if they know that person is armed. Second I don’t feel the government can 100 guarantees the safety of all of its citizens. Third reason why is criminals are going to carry a concealed weapon legal or not. So why shouldn’t law abiding citizens be able to do the same and be able to protect themselves.
More gun control laws will fix this and make it significantly harder for bad people to obtain guns. Others may think that it is an invasion of privacy to make people undergo background checks before obtaining a gun. Indeed, for a few people, background checks will be considered an invasion of privacy. However, it is very necessary. If there were not any background checks before owning a gun, it is possible for a terrorist or criminal to acquire a gun, like they can now.
Caleb Robbs Mrs. Hodgdon English III 2 May 2013 Gun control What do people think about when they hear gun control? Do thing about overruling or safety? The second amendment allows people the right to bear arms, it also allows people to own guns for self-defense and hunting. The government should not try and change the 2nd Amendment. They should not be able to take away our rights that were given to us long ago.
Summary of “Ban The Things. Ban Them All.” In the essay, “Ban The Things. Ban Them All,” written by Molly Ivins, she expresses concern about society’s ownership of guns, and how they have grown to be used more of a weapon for show, than for protection. Ivins also argues that the argument of “guns don’t kill people,” doesn’t exist, because she believes that they do, and that that may be all they ever do. Ivins states that she supports the Second Amendment: “A well–regulated militia being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of people to bear arms shall not be infringed,”(437) and that adolescents in our society are NOT part of a well-regulated militia: “[there are] teenage drug dealers…cruising the cites of this nation perforating their fellow citizens with assault rifles” (437).
Gun Control Does gun control decrease crime, or does it change anything at all. Criminals will have guns regardless of if they’re legal. If we make guns illegal, only the criminals will have guns. Law abiding citizens will have no way of defending themselves against said criminals. No matter what kind of gun control we have, criminals will always be able to obtain guns through the black market.
