"The world is filled with violence. Because criminals carry guns, decent law-abiding citizens should also have guns. Otherwise they will win and the decent people will lose." (James Earl Jones, Online). Banning all or some weapons is not the solution to decreasing the increased gun related violence in the United States.
More gun control laws will fix this and make it significantly harder for bad people to obtain guns. Others may think that it is an invasion of privacy to make people undergo background checks before obtaining a gun. Indeed, for a few people, background checks will be considered an invasion of privacy. However, it is very necessary. If there were not any background checks before owning a gun, it is possible for a terrorist or criminal to acquire a gun, like they can now.
It also doesn’t make sense to blame an inanimate object rather than the individual behind it and the reasons why gun violence occurs. A gun is a tool, not unlike a car or knife. When a law-abiding citizen makes the decision to purchase a gun, it is usually for the purpose of self-defense. It evens the playing field between a victim and a potentially dangerous criminal. In the story “They Each Had a Gun,” Hannah LaMarca was robbed and assaulted with no way to defend herself.
That’s why I think it would only reduce gun violence, not make it go away completely. Also if they the government did take away all the guns in the U.S I think it would be a more brutal way for someone to die, and what I mean by that is, it’s really easy to have a gun and shoot somebody, but what if there’s a person trying to stab you or choke you with a chain or something, I would hope you would at least try to fight back and not go down so easy like you would if a person had a gun because there’s not much you can do when someone is pointing a gun at you. The situation just becomes a big fight and you would probably die very brutally. Also I think about what it would do to the women of this country. Many
The reduction of the crime rates following the reduction of gun-related violence can be used to justify gun control. However, the official statistics does not support this assumption. The reasoning that guns cause crimes arises numerous disputations, as it does not consider that guns are just another mean of committing a crime. Pro-gun advocates usually assert, “Guns do not kill people; people kill people.” The Vice President, Wayne Lapierre argued that the best solution to the Newton Massacre was to allow citizens to own guns. He stated”The only way to stop a bad guy with a gun is a good guy with a gun” (Spitzer,
It is not the guns fault for people wanting to kill people. People that do these things are psychopaths. They had a reason that they thought was good enough to kill people. Not all the people that were killed by guns deserved to be killed but the gun was being controlled by someone, the gun did not do it by
There are definitely pros and cons for individual(s) being able to have a concealed weapon but in this case I am for people being able to carry a concealed weapon. Criminals are less likely to target a person if they know that person is armed. Second I don’t feel the government can 100 guarantees the safety of all of its citizens. Third reason why is criminals are going to carry a concealed weapon legal or not. So why shouldn’t law abiding citizens be able to do the same and be able to protect themselves.
This can be seen through the laws that followed after the St. Valentine’s Day massacre, John F. Kennedy assassination and the killing of Martin Luther King Junior which were meant for the government to control the type of guns that citizens could carry and use. I would highly recommend that leaders and citizens to take part in the gun control measures and laws in order to improve their safety and that of their family from crime. I decided as I said in the beginning to pick this topic because a majority of individuals have been affected by gun violence and it has become a menace to society. I will end with “Guns do not kill people. People kill people” at the end of the day gun lobbyists, owners a like and the general public should advocate for laws that encourage buyers and owners to demonstrate that they can possess a firearm lawfully and responsibly.
Gun Laws “Freeze, hands up!” Those are the words thought to be heard most when guns are around. But in reality those are just the words used toward criminals after their crimes are committed. What about the words associated with guns used to save lives in home invasion situations where the man of the house tells the thief their armed? Anti-gun activists believe that concealed carry of guns by normal citizens will end up with blood in the streets. The activists believe people will have gun fights over things as simple as parking spaces.
At times I feel as if I am incarcerated, even though I am a free citizen. I think the solution to ridding gun violence is to get rid of all the guns. Since that'll never happen, we need to make guns less accessible by creating federal legislation, applying it uniformly throughout every state. Easy gun accessibility is the reason why there are so many homicides because it is easier to pull a trigger than by attacking with a knife or other foreign object. I feel that handguns and assault weapons should be outlawed altogether because too many people misuse them.
