What’s So Great About High Heels, Anyways? Imagine being a woman getting ready to go out on a date; your hair and make-up are done, your clothes are on, you check the weather to see what kind of coat you should wear, the doorbell rings and you go to slip on your shoes. Looking down, you see nothing but a pair of shoes, but you know that in reality, that pair of shoes is going to mean a long night of pain, stress and muscle aches, yet they make your legs look long, your calves defined and your butt lifted. You finally get the guts to put on those heels and open the door. Your date decides to surprise you and not tell you what you will be doing that night. You are quite curious as to what kinds activities he has planned and quickly go through a list of activities that you would not want to engage in, due to the intentional agony that you know your shoes put you through. The list would include: long walks through the tall grass, sand or snow, salsa dancing, rock climbing, etc. In any other typical situation, these activities would seem perfectly acceptable, but because of the fact that tonight, you chose to wear the “heels from hell”, you know misery awaits you. High heels are among the most impractical inventions that man has ever invented. On a list of the pros and cons of wearing heels, the cons would greatly outweigh the pros. The negative effects and connotations that are associated with wearing heels can have a huge impact on a woman’s self image. Originally, the shoe was created to protect the feet from the environment. Several ancient civilizations, such as the Hebrew and Chinese, have recorded histories with references to wearing shoes (The History).
