But Germans blamed it for signing the Versailles treaty and for hunger and unemployment. Hitler set up a fascist style party called the Nazi party. Hitler wanted to tear up the Versailles treaty and unite all Germans so they could form a great German empire. He blamed the Jews and the communists for Germany’s troubles and wanted to destroy them. When the Great Depression 1929 forced many factories to close, desperate Germans voted for the Nazi party.
The consequences of Kristallnatch, the event in Germany was rejected by various and praised by others, many governments cut off relations with Germany in protest. The Jews who remained in Germany were forced to pay a fine of one billion marks for the damage in kristallnatch, Jewish children were not accepted in schools and there was a mass escape of Jews living in territories ruled by the 3rd Reich. Stalin was able to eliminate all effective opposition through a series of purges. The Show Trials, which began in 1936, were designed to create an atmosphere of intimidation and paranoia. As the purges swept through the party, many highly prominent Bolsheviks were put on trial and accused of being part of a Trotsky counter-revolutionary bloc. During the first Show Trial, of 1936, Stalin eliminated Kamenev and Zinoviev, who forcibly confessed to being part of Trotsky’s conspiracy and were consequently executed. In 1937 Stalin began the purge of the military, accusing them of spying for Nazi Germany.
Many Jewish people chose to use violent opposition as resistance to the actions of the Germans. This was undertaken in both ghettos and concentration camps. In a number of ghettos, Jewish communities used violence resistance against Nazi activities. Source A is an account of Jewish defiance in the Warsaw ghetto against the Nazis . The Nazis wished to deport the Jews to Treblinka extermination camp and liquidate the ghetto, and the source demonstrates the Jewish opposition to the genocide of their race.
The people that are most affected are the survivors. Kristallnacht was a Nazi street riot where streets were littered with broken glass. It was presented by the Nazi regime as a spontaneous public outburst provoked by the assassination of a minor German diplomat in Paris, Ernst vom Rath, by a seventeen-year-old Polish Jew, Herschel Grynszpan. The pogrom's name comes from the German word for beveled plate glass (Kristallglas) and refers to the broken shop windows of the Jewish stores, hence Kristallnacht, or Night of the Broken Glass. Mass destruction broke out across Germany: synagogues were destroyed and burned, shop windows were broken and stores looted, Jewish homes were invaded and household furnishing stolen or destroyed, and Jewish people were physically assaulted, sometimes even raped and murdered, and arrested.
In 1933, Hitler, leader of the Nazi party, was named Chancellor of Germany. After World War I the League of Nations had forced Germany to accept responsibility for the war. They lost land, were banned from building new submarines and aircraft, and had to pay for damages caused by the war. (Gordon, page 343) Hitler and the Nazi party wanted revenge on the winners of World War I and the Socialists, Communists, and Jews, who he blamed for Germany’s loss in World War I. (Ward and Burns, page 16) Hitler decided to take over other countries and to kill Jews.
Hitler then took away the “Power of the People” by replacing parliament with a self proclaimed dictatorship, which most Germans welcomed. Hitler was often described as a “Leader that got mad with power” as he lead a war that lead to many, many people dying. This so called “madness” leads to him taking over Poland and starting the war, consequently meaning Germany broke the “Treaty of Versailles”. After Germany took over Poland, Britain declared war on Germany as they refused to leave from Germany and the fact that they broke the “Treaty of Versailles”. After Britain declared war on Germany, France joined in with Britain as they felt threatened that Germany was going to take over them.
The Nazis were a political party in Germany at the time of the Second World War, and they were ruled by a man named Adolf Hitler. Hitler believed that the Great World War was the result of Jews and that they lost the war because of the Jews. Hitler wanted to get rid of anyone who was Jew; this resulted in an event called the Holocaust. The Holocaust was a very unique event. It evolved around 1933 and 1945.
ANTISEMITIC LEGISLATION 1933–1939 Antisemitism and the persecution of Jews were central tenets of Nazi ideology. In their 25-point party program published in 1920, Nazi party members publicly declared their intention to segregate Jews from “Aryan” society and to abrogate their political, legal, and civil rights. Nazi leaders began to make good on their pledge to persecute German Jews soon after their assumption of power. During the first six years of Hitler's dictatorship, from 1933 until the outbreak of war in 1939, Jews felt the effects of more than 400 decrees and regulations that restricted all aspects of their public and private lives. Many of these were national laws that had been issued by the German administration and affected all Jews.
The Holocaust was one of the worst events to ever happen to mankind. It was started by the Fuhrer of Germany, Adolf Hitler, who thought that the Aryan race was superior to every other race. He had a massive hatred for the Jewish race and decided to try and exterminate every living Jewish person. He killed around two-thirds of all the European Jews (Byers 10). World War II was going on at the same time as the Holocaust.
