Whether we believe it or not, our youth is killing themselves and the leading way is by guns. There is an estimation of 41,149 suicidal deaths each year, according to the Centers for Disease Control. Suicidal deaths with firearms are ranked higher in comparison to homicides, which are ranked 2:1. So many of these suicides could be prevented by households leaving their guns outside of the house or tucked away in hard to reach places. In states where gun control is not monitored as much, rates of suicide were higher; for example, Wyoming reported that in the 63% of households that contained guns, the suicidal rates were higher than in those houses that did not contain guns.
I think that there are too many crimes being committed in the United States because of our right to “bear arms”. There are roughly 300 million firearms owned by civilians in the United States as of 2010. About 100 million of these are handguns. At the current homicide rate, 1 in every 240 Americans will be murdered. A survey of
Feburary 26th Gun Control in the United States Throughout our nations history, we have been battling the idea of whether us citizens should or shouldn't have the right to buy and own a gun. According to the Coalition for Gun Control, about 291 people were killed last year by handguns in Australia, Japan, Great Britain, Sweden, and Switzerland. In the United States, try 24,000 people. What is the big difference between the U.S. and those other countries? In those countries it is nearly impossible for you to buy any kind of gun.
The Dangers of Carrying a Gun In 1985, about 31,600 people were killed with guns, and perhaps another 130,000 people suffered nonfatal gunshot wounds. However, the majority of the deaths, 55%, were suicides, rather than criminal homicides. Only 37% were homicides, 5% were fatal gun accidents, and 1.5% each were due to legal intervention (police officers killing suspects in the line of duty) and to death where it was undetermined whether the injury was intentionally or accidentally inflicted. Moreover, among all deaths due to "external cause,"( i.e. accident, suicide or homicide) a gun was involved in 22% of them, handguns in about 13% of them.
2 Info The right to bear arms is presented in the Second Amendment of the U.S. Constitution. The amendment states: "A well-regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed." Many argue that the Second Amendment gives individuals the right to own guns, and that the government should honor this right. Others say that the amendment was meant to apply only to states' rights, instead of individual rights. They argue that gun ownership contributes to high levels of crime and say that the founders of the Constitution did not intend to make
Detroit recorded 308 criminal homicides in 2010, a 15.4% drop from the previous year’s count of 364. Non-fatal shootings were also down 10.5% from the previous year. We the people should be concerned about this each and every day because it’s getting dangerous and out of hand. Detroit is the capital of Michigan and without it we pretty much don’t have anything. In 2007 analysis said that Detroit officials noted about 65 to 70 percent of homicides in the city were confined to a narcotics catalyst.
The second amendment says “A well regulated militia being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the People to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed.” (Bill of Rights). But how could we interpret this amendment? Does this mean that we have the right to have only one gun, or we have the right to have as many guns as we want? Every right has its limitations and this right is not the exception. The first amendment says: “Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech…” (Bill of Rights).
These are only a few of the mass shootings that have occurred recently in the past and have sparked debate about the controversial topic of gun control. Every year, approximately 100,000 Americans fall victim to gun violence. Although guns should not be banned completely, limiting the buying and selling of guns, and restricting ammunition amounts and types. By putting gun
According to the article, Fire Away, in one year, there are 31,224 people die from gun violence, 12,632 people are murdered, 683 children and teens kill themselves and 17,352 people kill themselves (Grunwald 36). Total death about gun violence is 61208 which mean one person dies in every five thousand in the United States. In one day, 8 children and teens die from gun violence, 86 people die from gun violence, and 35 people are murdered (Grunwald 36). In an industry figures shows about gun homicides, there was about six thousand in 1966. Compare twenty-nine years late which was 1995, it was increased to be 15835 gun homicides which is about 86 percent ascent (Jost 1108).
China has a suicide mortality rate of 23:100,000, with a total of 287,000 deaths by suicide each year. The rate for women is 25% higher than that for men, and rates in rural areas are three times higher than in cities. The means also vary; in China, Sri Lanka, and Turkey the primary means of suicide is ingestion of pesticides, rather than using firearms.
