Liberty University Mathematical Reform: Using Phi Delta Kappan Series EDUC 301 There is an issue of reform versus the basis. Reform is the improvement of something wrong or is corrupt. One thing that is corrupt is the American education system dealing in mathematics. The society has many questions on why students have problems in math rather than any other subject they take in school. Some questions that have risen are still needed answering by the many school districts in our nation especially dealing with the curricula of the mathematics courses and text books, and also and the districts investment in the school districts.
This article compares the effects of a worksheet condition and an iPad condition on math fluency and active academic engagement during a high school math class. Three students with significant behavioral and mental health needs engaged in independent work either completing problems on a worksheet or an iPad. I found this article to be interested because
Then students were experimented with a test that would go towards their grade and extra credit if they volunteered students that volunteered there were 129 from the list and 60 of students were chosen, had to think out loud and they were split up into three groups based on the performance of their three previous 70 question exam. And the 20 “A” students scored greater than 90, “C” students had averages of 70-76 and “F” students scored an average of 60 and each group was consisted of 12 females and 8 males. Then they tested “M” students which were allowed as much time to complete the exam, which was still 70 questions. They students who did the exam said it was an ease with the instruction they had on the exam. With the A, C, And F
The population of the city is around 3,000, and FHS services about 360 students from grades ninth thru twelfth. The community is very small and close knit, and the high school plays a major role in preparing students for the real word, because most of the students do not attend college after graduation. Objective of the Document The objective of this analysis is to identify ways to integrate technology at the ninth grade level in English and math classes to help strengthen the students’ skills in those areas. The integration of technology in the core areas will also provide additional skill building activities for students so that they will be prepared for the mandatory state test required for graduation. Background Observation of the existing technology made over the last five years.
Name: ___________________________________ Date: ______________ 1. A study is designed to determine whether grades in a statistics course could be improved by offering review material. The 250 students in an introductory statistics class are also enrolled in one of 20 lab sections. The 20 lab sections are randomly divided into 2 groups of 10 lab sections each. The students in a set of 10 lab sections are given extra review material during the last 15 minutes of each lab session.
Abstract In making attributions for behavior, individuals will encounter information patterns indicating stimulus, person, or circumstance causation. The aim of this study is to investigate the influence of consensus, distinctiveness and consistency information on person and situational attributional judgments. Participants; fifteen second year psychology students; answered 24-hypothetical Events Questionnaire individually, coded their responses, exchanged questionnaires, tallied and rated each question, then analyzed their class’s results (dependent samples t-test). The study supported the hypotheses high consensus causes more situation attributions than low however, did not support high distinctiveness causes more situation attributions than low; and high consistency causes more situation attributions than low. Results confirmed consensus, distinctiveness, and consistency effected person and situational attributional judgments but varied in ratings for different conditions.
The everyday conversation involves language uses. There are many ways of conversation, and it can be influences by different regional, ethnic, family background, age and gender. In Deborah Tannen’s research of the “gender in the classroom” stated about that female and male mix up class, men take the role in the class, which talks more than women. However, record to my own knowledge and research I did not support the statement, like in my English class the female and male students are equal, yet female talks way more than male. Therefore, I disagree with Tannen’s theory, “[…] speaking in a classroom is more congenial to boys’ language experience than to girls’ […]” (164).
At the end of the academic year, when the students were re-tested, those students thought by teachers to be academic bloomers showed a more significant increase in TOGA scores that students not thought to be academic bloomers. Thus, Rosenthal and Jacobson concluded that teacher’s expectations could influence student’s intellectual abilities. Self-fulfilling prophecies are just as prevalent in offices as they are in elementary school classrooms. If a manager is convinced that the people in her group are first-rate, they’ll reliably outperform a group whose manager believes the reverse- even if the innate talent of the two groups are similar. It occurs in a workplace when a manager raises his or her expectations for the performance of workers, and this actually results in an increase in worker performance.
There are about two million children currently being educated at home in the United States (Pitman and Van Galen 4). Home-schooled kids do well on standardized tests and are welcome at colleges and universities. Home-schooling Achievement, a study conducted by the National Home Education Research Institute (NHERI), supported the academic integrity of home-schooling. According to the results of this study by Dr. Brian D. Ray, the average home-schooled student outperformed his public school peers by thirty to thirty-seven percentile points across all subjects (53). However, when children attend school they do not just gain an academic education.
And I want to tell a truth about me, and maybe lots of students are like me. When I was a student in Grade 9, I had 9 class every day, and I had at least 3 math class in each day. That time, we did not have time for noon break every day because we had to do math exam. The way of teaching is another important factor. In other parts of the world ,the math teacher focuses more on the ability of learning by oneself.
