This is the kind of mathematics that most parents and government officials recognize as the curricula that they attempted to learn when they were in school. It consists primarily of arithmetic or computation and it is about finding answers to questions such as “17 is what percent of 9,and so that it is all about “solving for x” and memorizing formulas. The question is what is constructivism and does it effect student in math courses? Constructivism inn math terms is intuition into the theory that mathematical entities do not exist independently of our construction of them . Basically its saying that math is expressed in a different way to children than how adults intake math information.
Student intelligence and achievement is influenced by numerous factors, however teachers are still being evaluated for effectiveness by students’ test scores. These factors include class size, individual student needs, peer culture, and homelife, every student is different, making it infeasible to solely hold the teacher accountable for his/her performance.With their jobs on the line teachers are being coerced to “teach to the test” or narrow curriculum to only include what students will see on the exams. An article written by “neaToday” states over 81% of teachers have added extra time to math and language arts subjects. Opportunities to allow students to learn what they are interested in is no longer an option as these standardized tests have taken over lesson plans. Teachers are scrambling to teach the necessary requirements and best prepare students for testing, leaving no time for students to genuinely enjoy learning.
Because students do not have much exposure to signed numbers in previous learning or textbooks, this concept poses a problem not only for the student but for the teacher as well. Math was something I was always good at because I looked at it like a challenge to my intellect, I am right or I am wrong. On one occasion when I was doing math work in class, my teacher asked me to do complex math problems, and I did them with no problem. My teacher was surprised I could do them; in fact she took me out of special education for math because of this. Now this gave me an outlook that my teacher did not know my potential as a student and she was not going to challenge me. She was just going to give me work based on what she thought my ability was.

The population of the city is around 3,000, and FHS services about 360 students from grades ninth thru twelfth. The community is very small and close knit, and the high school plays a major role in preparing students for the real word, because most of the students do not attend college after graduation.
