Ricky choses the hardest books imaginable. He believes in reading up on what others have to say about a difficult book, and then making up his own mind about it. He says that part of the reason he feels this way is because of his teacher, Mr. Buxton, who taught him Shakespeare in 10th grade. Ricky shares how Mr. Buxton met him one night to go over the text line by line, but he didn’t share the conclusion with Moody, he left that for him to figure out on his own. Reading Umberto Eco’s “Role of the Reader” in college, Ricky states that, “The reader completes the text, that the text is never finished until it meets this voracious and engaged reader.” Although there are critics who believe there is a right and a wrong way to ready books, Moody says, “I believe there is not now and never will be an authority who can tell me how to interpret, how to read, how to find the pearl of literary meaning in all cases.” Part 2.
After Alexie became a writer, he often visited schools and teach creative writing to Indian kids and let them read books. Indian children were expected to be stupid but after they read books they are refreshed. He wrote about those kids in the article [run on sentence. End the last sentence with a period and then integrate the quote] “they have read my books. They have read many books.
I do not have any misconceptions about writing I'm just very out of practice and I'm sure with time it will become a lot easier and feel more natural. I need to focus on staying on topic, grammar and punctuation. I tend to go off topic once I get another idea something similar but not part of the idea I was going for in my paper. In order to improve this weakness is by keeping my ideas organize will help me stay on topic After reading chapter one it gave me a new motivation to learn about writing. I have always just gave myself the excuse that I am not a good writer and that’s how I am going to live.
Avi is the only name he uses now. His father was a doctor, and his mother, later on, became a social worker. As a kid Avi was shy, he didn’t like sports and liked to read and play games of imagination. Avi read picture books, then chapter books, comic books, and he listened to lots of kids' radio. In elementary school he did well in science, but he was a poor writer.
I considered a good writer to be anyone who could effectively convey a message to a reader. Since going through the first two units, I have learned that good writing is quite a bit more complicated. Author Keith Grant-Davie discussed how important to good writing it was to analyze your subject matter to understand who all of your possible audiences are and who you may be representing when writing your material, and to address all parties appropriately. If an author can do this effectively, I believe that it is a crucial part of becoming a good writer. Unit one also taught me to reevaluate how important certain priorities when it came to writing.
Amir finally understands this at the end. At the beginning Amir couldn’t be happier with a rich dad, nice house and everything he could ever ask for. He was a spoiled kid. When Sohrab came into the story, and Amir finally became a father he started to realize that it was all him now, he was in charge and Amir showed that he really cared for Sohrab. “Do you want me to run that kite for you?” Amir was doing anything for Sohrab, he cared so much for this little boy and he finally realized that he had to live for someone else.
The sticks today are much different than the ones my father used that were made from wood and didn’t have a curved blade. Technological progression has allowed leading hockey companies to release sticks each year that are lighter and more durable, which is very important to hockey players, especially the ones paying for their own equipment as sticks can cost up to $330. Today sticks are made from carbon fibre rather than wood which are much more durable and also allow for more whip, which ultimately leads to a harder shot. These technologies have proven themselves in the NHL. Zdeno Chara, one of the best defensemen in the game today, shattered the record for hardest shot in the past three years, recording a 108.8 MPH slap shot at the 2012 NHL All Star Game.
Reading is an important part of everyday life. That’s why me and my mom read the book “The Glory Field” and had an interview. We talked about the protagonist of the book, the setting of the book, and the plot. The main conflict me and my mom had was “Should Lizzy had went along with Lem and Joshua?”. The interview was exciting and we mostly had the same views about the story.
For the first time teachers are going to be getting paid more, they will finally get a salary in which their line of work calls for. A teacher’s job will no longer be a small town last resort but instead it will be a profession; with that calls for a level of responsibility in the teachers who don’t perform to standard because they have a guaranteed position. College is finally affordable, from raising the maximum Pell Grant to working with schools to settle rising college tuition cost; these are all life-changing improvements. What a breath of fresh air it is to actually see the changes a President talks about. Once again, the visionary, that is, President Barack Obama has brought to Americans what we lacked and needed most; hope.
It was also explained that he watches and people who go above and beyond were going to be getting raises. Showing up early, staying late, and working on your days off are all signs of a committed employee. I was paying close attention because I want a raise and need the extra money. This relates to the concept of mindful listening which means giving careful and thoughtful attention and responses to the messages we receive. (pg.220) I assume from now on I will be working on being early to work and making sure that I try to go above and beyond so I can move up at work and start making better money.
