The inability for employers to have a drug free workplace, since they will no longer be able to give the employees drug test for marijuana. It would send a permissive message to young adults that drug use is acceptable. This creates to the public perception that marijuana is not a serious or harmful drug, when in fact, it lead to numerous mental and physical harm. Loss of control over medical marijuana by physician. In consistency with other laws for example, if a state legalizes marijuana, this conflicts with federal laws, and this leads to confusion in the public and among law
How safe are the E-cigarettes really? I am responding to a radio show I listened to on New Hampshire Public Radio on January 30th, 2013. The topic of discussion was about how E-cigarettes suck in users and how the companies who produce them have managed to evade regulations to nicotine products. I can see how there would be mixed feelings about the E-cigarette products especially since there have been no long term testing done on these products. The scientific evidence on the E-cigarette is not final; it doesn’t prove or show medical evidence on how they will affect a person’s health.
There are many reasons and facts that are in favor of lowering the drinking age. Fifty-eight percent of Americans believe the legal age should be lowered. As a great professor once said “today we are repeating history and making the same mistakes. Prohibition did not work then and prohibition for the young people under the age of 21 is not working now.” (web; Indiana.edu). In other words restricting the American people from alcoholic beverages in the past was unsuccessful and a way was found to break that law.
Also included in the causation of youth smoking are tobacco industry promotions and advertising, which I believe should be illegal. Easy access to these tobacco products is a major issue in this situation. Passage 3: Studies have shown that teenagers respond to smoke-free environments by decreasing smoking. Teens who work in a totally smoke-free environment were 68 percent as likely to never smoke than those who worked in less restricted work sites. Also students living in a smoke-free home were 74 percent as likely to never smoke compared to those who live in households with no smoking
The examples of the Netherlands and Portugal show that decriminalizing marijuana does not lead to “pot epidemics”. A common argument among the anti-marijuana lobby is that marijuana is a “gateway drug”, meaning that people who smoke marijuana are likely to begin
Even though there are designated places now on campus to smoke it really defeats the purpose because people don’t abide by the specific rules that should be followed so that everyone can be satisfied in some way. People throw cigarette butts on the ground instead of in the trash to try and keep out campus looking clean. Certain people might think otherwise because having a smoke-free campus would jeopardize some people’s health. Smoking can be addictive but can help people in some positive ways for that moment. The designated smoke areas sounded like a good idea at first so that smokers would have specific places to smoke under certain rules.
Although alcohol is legal, it does not mean that it is better for you. There are arguments going both ways where people suggest that marijuana should be legal because alcohol is more deadly, while there are alcoholics that would say smoking weed is bad for you. Both substances are bad for your health and should not be used heavily by anyone. Marijuana has an immediate effect on the user, which last for about two hours after smoking. A person drinking alcohol may start to feel the effects after just one drink, and recover depending on how much the person drank, body weight, and how much they may have had to eat before drinking.
Why are the things the way it is now with alcohol and marijuana? One is all over televisions programs and sponsorships with sports teams and the other is just say no to the drug. But still, which one is worst? If I understand right, I believe that alcohol would be worst than marijuana. Every time I used alcohol I feel like I can’t drive my car, talk correctly, better yet function correctly, and sometimes angry for no reason why.
Recent polls taken by the Pew Research Center and General Social Surveys show that the main reason for support of marijuana is that the American public fails to see marijuana has a major moral issue (Galston, Dionne 1). Compared to gay marriage or abortion, many more Americans are indifferent when it comes to others using marijuana. Those against legalization who consider marijuana to be a gateway drug and a vice argue that legalization will lead an overall increase in consumption of the drug. They argue that legalization will decrease productivity in the workplace, influence children negatively, and increase drug induced automobile crashes. However, the pro-legalization Americans respond in saying increased marijuana use has no lasting health effects, legalization will allow for better regulation of distribution, and marijuana legalization will reduce alcohol consumption in America.
Ethical issues and a lack of research studies that prove the effectiveness of Cannabis are the reason the drug has not be legalized in all states. Multidisciplinary Association for Psychedelic Studies is working on research to show the usefulness of medicinal Marijuana in a therapeutic situation. According to "Research Medical Marijuana" (2011), “The National Institute on Drug Abuse’s monopoly on the supply of marijuana for research and the DEA's refusal to allow researchers to grow their own has effectively paralyzed medical marijuana research,” (para.
