“A Modest Proposal” For Preventing Smokers from Contaminating the Air with Deadly Toxins and Causing Second Hand Smoke upon the Innocent Public Contaminated air is among the many fears that the innocent public must confront in order to attempt a healthy and long living life. Naive children occasionally saunter down the street unknowingly passing by men and women smoking the typical cigarette. Tobacco does not only affect the consumer, but it also partakes in the lives of the surrounding inhabitants that inhale the same toxins. Smokers have a gruesome and egotistic view on life that results in no consideration for the purity of a person’s body. The negligence that tobacco consumers demonstrate by smoking wherever and whenever results in 443,000 deaths per year, including 49,000 of whom had never smoked, but second hand smoke took advantage over them.
Since it is not very likely that all tobacco users on campus are going to quit, looking into alternative locations would be a viable option. When students are advised to move away from the entrance location, it has been observed that they do not move off campus. They tend to move to areas away from the entrances, often located under trees. One option could be to have a gazebo, or covered patio area installed on the side of the building. This would provide tobacco using students with a location that meets their desires of shade and weather protection, while allowing the non-tobacco users access to entrances without encountering the unpleasant results of tobacco usage.
The drinking age isn't meant to be a big deal, but the first couple years of lowering the drinking age could cause many students to be reckless. There are many responsibilities that come along with drinking at a low age, most importantly drinking and driving. Lowering the age will reduce all such problems, but at first will seem extremely hectic. Lowering the current drinking age of 21-and-over will allow young Americans, most of who are perfectly capable of drinking responsibly; to no longer drink in private or in short amounts of time, thus alleviating potentially dangerous conditions. Drinking privately is extremely unsafe and when kids are in a situation they can't handle, they can then ask for help.
In the United States today, if an individual who has the incentive to recreationally use drugs, the fact that it’s illegal inst going to stop them from getting it. If all drugs were to be made legal, not everyone would be able to purchase them, just like alcohol and tobacco. A certain age regulation would be set. Currently, drugs are available to mostly anyone who wants them; this is because they have no regulation what so ever. The public is able to buy them at their free will resulting in drugs corrupting schools and America’s youth.
However, the author believes that the actual alcohol isn't the problem but instead the problem is the law of 21 being the legal age for drinking. Seaman thinks that because the underage kids are prohibited to drink legally they are more tempted to do it but if the drinking limit were to be lowered to 18 then yes at first they would drink a lot but eventually they would get bored of it and they'd settle down to get their other priorities straight. Hence, Barrett Seaman hopes that pre gamers are allowed to come out so they can begin to learn to have control over alcohol like any adult. I really liked this essay, it’s something that I’ve had experience with, not so much as the underage drinking, but pre gaming before going out was something that I
However, some people believe that smoking should not be banned in public places because it is the smoker’s choice to smoke just as it is the non-smokers choice not to smoke. President Clinton is quoted saying that “We’ve got to do more to protect people in public places and clean up the air that all of us share”. For non-smokers, inhaling someone else’s cigarette smoke can be very aggravating. It is bad enough that automobiles, processing plants, and other types of industries pollute our environment, but for a smoker to choose to smoke around a non-smoker is a violation of his or her right to clean air. An effort to change this has happened in some places to purify the air for those who do not smoke.
This program has re-enforced my confidence level so I know I will make the right choices. My Grandpa smokes cigarettes, but that does not mean that he is mean or rude, just that he made one wrong choice in his life. That also does not mean that I have to make the same bad choice he did. I choose not to smoke cigarettes because I know what harm the poisons they have in them will do to my body. My parents do not smoke or take drugs.
Many believe marijuana is a stress reliever and a way to forget all their problems, but if one would realize the actual effects and the difficulty to be able to “cut back” on smoking/eating it, the drug lobby would not be trying so hard to con voters into believing marijuana is completely safe. To face this problem the organized participation of society is required through actions that put the health of individuals and communities before other interests. Including being worried about the number of marijuana consumers among children and adolescents in the world, and particularly worried about the age decreasing for first timers. More importantly get closer to decision makers and ask them to develop well-balanced national policies for supply reduction and demand reduction by initiating prevention programs, and offering rehabilitation as means too face this social phenomenon society calls the drug
The use of such software would provide convenience for employees, by saving them time by not having to ask for ID from customers. It would make it less likely that people could successfully use fake IDs if they are underage and their correct details are already stored on the computer. For the company it could also prevent the legal problems which may occur if they sell alcohols and cigarettes to minors impact company. If they do this they could face legal ramifications and fines, but with the use of such technology this is less likely analysis. However they would have notify customers of the use of the technology in their stores, as underage people may wish to avoid the stores which could lead to a decrease in sales from the stores who use the system.
Other people chose to smoke because the people around them smoke, and the people whom are exposed to this behavior tend to follow the trends. Many people try to stay away from others that smoke for many reasons. First, is the fact that smoke makes your clothes smell and hands smell, and many other things on your body seem to smell after a smoking. Non- smokers have an issue with the people that smoke. Personally, I believe that people who smoke have every right to do what they want; just like the people who decide not to smoke.
