Carter 1 Benton Carter 3/9/15 ENG 100 Professor Getrost U.S. Born vs International Born The U.S. contains some of the world’s greatest athletes, but some of these athletes were not born in the U.S. and had to endure quite a lot in order to have the opportunity to compete in the U.S. There are many differences between U.S. born and International born athletes but the three major differences that I will talk about in this essay are that although there are athletes in the U.S. who had to struggle to get to where they are now, it is ultimately more of a struggle for International athletes because they have to deal with wars, famine, and lack of medical resources. One of the other differences is that they have to go through different customs in order to make it in the professional field such as getting a visa or green card. The last difference is that players born in the U.S. are more likely to focus on themselves rather than their team, which is the opposite of International born athletes. Becoming a professional athlete is tough as is but there are those who had to experience extra hardships along the way to becoming an athlete. International athletes have to deal with economic issues while trying to make it in the pros. These issues consisted of wars, famine, and lack of medical equipment, for some everyday was a struggle to survive.
