The importance of meeting somebodies communication needs is because if they cannot communicate effectively then you can understand what they are trying to express. Different people have different communication methods or methods that they prefer to use, so we should support them when using their preferred method of communication. Without communication people cannot express their needs or wants, so therefore it is a basic human right.

You need to be a good listener, patient and be prepared to put in the effort as it can sometimes be very frustrating especially if there are communication difficulties. You need to be prepared to support them on activities of their choice and have fun with them. Regular keyworker sessions should be carried out with the individual on every aspect of there life including things that they may be finding difficult. It is important that the individual is aware that you are a member of staff who is there to support them, you need to be careful not to over step the mark. Never agree to keep secrets, never buy the individual presents and do not see the individual in your own personal time.
Body language, facial expressions, conversations etc, are all part of environmental information and tells us what is going on around us. Sensory loss, therefore, can affect mobility, communication and can lead to loneliness and isolation. Communication can be very difficult to somebody with sight or hearing loss. For sight loss, reading may be difficult, also, facial expressions and body language is missed, or misread, so it could be hard maintaining relationships. Orientation can be affected and people can lose a sense of what is around them and where they are.
It’s also important to not overstep privacy boundaries of others. (Barriers to Effective Communication) Physical barriers can prevent people from having effective communication The environment can have an effect on it, such as not be able to communicate clearly because of weather conditions, or being in an area where it’s too noisy and crowded it can be hard to hear what the other person is saying. Important work related conversations should be done in a quiet area where there aren’t distractions around. Distance also plays a role in physical barriers, if you are located far away from an employee, you will have to rely on phone or email to talk instead of in person where it can be more personal. During phone calls or email try to talk about all the important topics and make sure the receiver understands the message you are
Time management is very important in all aspects of life. If you do not have positive in this area, you will fail to accomplish specific goals, and benchmarks. Again, you must hold yourself accountable to be disciplined enough to manage your time wisely. The consideration and respect you show others is a big aspect of this area. People typically demand respect before giving it.
The staff should keep them private, protected and confidential. This is to make sure the service users are not harm and they feel secure. It also relates to health and social care because service users information should not be given out to anyone without the service user knowing. Human Rights Act 1998 The Human Rights Act 1998 is the legislation that formally protects individual rights in law. It gives us the rights to have freedom to walk and speech.
