Understanding the communication process in the workplace Understand the nature and importance of the communication process in the work place. Effective communication in the work place has many advantages if delivered correctly using an appropriate method to the intended recipients. Myself working as a sole supervisor with no cell leaders in a building offsite to the main production building, communication is relied upon heavily and something I am constantly promoting to my team and colleagues. Advantages are : Time saving : Delivering information (Keeping everybody in the loop) : Gives value to the business, yourself and your colleagues by sharing information so everyone can pull in the same direction : Encourages others to communicate better. : An effective way of introducing change in a timely manner with minimal disruption. : Can be used to provide feedback (negative or positive) to individuals or groups. : Gives your colleagues confidence in yourself if you are and effective communicator of information and receiver. The stages in the communication cycle are : Sender, information to be delivered, how this to be channelled, how this will be decoded and received. The sender needs to encode the information so that it is fully understandable to their audience or recipient, the sender then needs decide the best method of transmitting the information, the receiver then decodes the information and then responds with appropriate feedback or action. There can be barriers to communication with individuals or the workplace in general. : Individual Barriers could be sight or hearing impairments, language or accent, or previous history on the subject or between the sender and recipient : Workplace barriers could be a noisy environment, very busy environment or the ability or the lack of tools to receive messages I.E no telephone, computers in an area your
