Dance Critique I had the pleasure of watching the greatly talented UCLA dance team in their 2009, 2010, and 2011 National Competition. The UCLA dance team consists of 11 girls. All of these girls went through a very difficult audition process in order to become a member of the team. Being a part of a Dance Team like UCLA requires dedication and commitment to dancing. UCLA dance team members work very hard to perfect dances for sports events and various competitions. I greatly enjoyed watching the dance team on their National Completions for three different years. All three performances were incredible, within every year the UCLA dance team improved. Making their dances more appealing and amusing, resulting in getting closer to perfection. In the 2009 USA All-Star National Competition the UCLA dance team performed a belly/bolly wood dance. This dance was performed on February 17 2009 in San Diego California. The song this dance was performed to was a traditional bollywood instrumental. This dance was very energetic and sassy. The quality of the dancers and the choreography were outstanding. The choreography was filled with various turns, extensions, kicks, and leaps. The dancers executed these movements precisely and accurately. This was a character dance so each dancer added their own style or personality to the movements using facials and body gestures. The Costumes matched the dance perfectly; they were blue traditional bollywood costumes. One dancer that really stood out to me was McCall. She had the most turns and the highest extensions she never lost energy and was always giving the dance her all which is something all dancers are striving to do. All the different elements of this dance from the costumes, to the music, and the choreography came together very well and created an enjoyable and exciting piece. The next dance video I watched was the 2010
