Travel Time Tokyo subway system is one of the most efficient subway systems in the world. It ranks 2nd has the best metro system, only behind China’s Gaungzhou subway system (Falzon 2012). Tokyo subway system continues to rank highly on most lists because of its punctuality. It takes an average of 2-5 minutes for the train to reach one station to another. During peak hours trains run ever 3 minutes and run ever 10 minutes during off-peak hours (Getting Around Tokyo 2012). Most importantly, Tokyo’s trains are precise. The projected arrival time and the actual arrival time for each train never exceeds 30 seconds and usually the travel will arrive with 10 seconds of the projected time. Safety Since subway is a popular mode of traveler among the citizens in Tokyo, with over 8.6 million travelers a day, safety is a very important factor to sustainability (Martin 2010). The most common safety concern is caused by congestions. The sheer number of riders during rush causes people to ride tightly together and fill trains to above capacity. Although there have been no deaths related to this overcrowding, harassment for women has been a growing problem. To deal with this problem Tokyo subway system have added special cars during rush hours and only allow women and young children to ride. This provides a safer and more comfortable ride for those vulnerable during peak hour rushes. Another concern is this risk of falling onto the tracks. Safety measures have been placed to prevent any injuries or deaths from falling onto the tracks. The major safety measure they have added are clear, sliding doors that only open once the train has reached its destination. However these doors are only in place at major subways stops and at newer subway lines. More money should be invested to install protective doors at al the stops. The biggest safety concern for the
