It also might let them know that if they are in an aggressive mood, then they should calm down or pull over at an appropriate stop and take a moment to calm down and get their head cleared. This summarizes the lesson with the concept of following the speed in cities, the interstate, and highways. It shows that the driver behind the bumper sticker is not following the rules of the road in its simplest form and should take a moment and pull over where appropriate and take a moment to clear their mind so they can follow the rules of the road without any distractions. Module 6: Effects of Alcohol and Drugs Some day you might find yourself in a dangerous driving situation because of drugs, alcohol, or extreme drowsiness due to medication. Talk to a parent or guardian about what they would like for you to do if you find yourself in this situation.
I think that designing safe cars is more important than reducing driver distractions because first it always depends on the driver’s attention span, second you can never reduce any distractions and second the safer the car is the safer the accident is. I think that designing a safe car is more important than reducing driver distractions because it all depends on the driver’s attention span. If the driver can get easily distracted than there will be always a ninety percent chance that he/ she will get in to a fatal or non- fatal car accident. For example if the driver is distracted by something that has occurred outside the vehicle than the driver is more prone to getting in an accident because there weren’t as much safety features in the vehicle you may ask why weren’t there any safety features? Well because designers of the cars believed that if there were less driver distractions than they can include less safety features.
During this period of time, the driver’s attention is focused in the conversation. Because this decreases the driver’s skills to react in time to possible dangers on the road, a person using his cell phone and driving at the same time might not be able to avoid colliding with the car in front that used their brakes to avoid a pot-hole or an animal crossing the road. One possible solution to this dilemma is a newly formed law forbidding the use of cell phones while driving. The best way to educate drivers on the severity of this issue is to raise awareness on the danger of cell phone use while driving. However, cell phone’s aren’t the only outside factor influencing poor driving habits.
Danger is a Call Away Distracted driving is a major cause of automobile accidents. Cell phones play a heavy role in this increasing issue, but there are many other activities that pull one’s attention away from driving. In definition, distracted driving is an action in which one takes their focus away from driving. In most cases it’s cell phone use, but common things like makeup, shaving, and eating are forms of distracted driving. In order to understand what distracted driving is and how to prevent it, one must know the causes and effects, but more importantly the prevention of this reoccurring issue.
With dry pavements, cars and drivers respond quicker to situations, avoiding accident possibilities. During winter, rain and snow make the roads slick and less tolerant in dangerous situations. Even if a driver is concentrating, winter conditions may cause a vehicle to spin out of control at the smallest touch of the brakes. Weather conditions in the winter can condense roadways very dangerous, needing increased driver skills. They must be more cautious of distance between cars in case one needs to stop quickly.
When a driver shifts a gear down to reduce their speed, they are actually saving on brake repairs and are very fuel efficient. Texaco Fuel Industries reported that Stick shifts cars save 20% more gas than automatic transmission cars. Stick shift cars will respond better to the driver which makes them safer. Safety is an important issue when we talk about cars. People who drive cars with automatic transmissions often do not pay as much attention as they should.
That isn’t very safe. Then, another problem would be when you are at intersections. Ones that are normally controlled by stop signs would be a little easier to navigate, but what about intersections that have stops light at an intersection of two fast speed roads. Everybody would be crashing in to each other, and then that we leave us with a bunch of crunched cars and fatalities. So obviously we understand that without the rules of the road it would not be safe at intersections, but what about on roads that do not have major intersections?
Cell Phones are a Distraction Distractions while driving take the operator’s attention away from the road. This poses a serious risk to the driver, vehicle occupants, pedestrians, property, and more. Distractions, like using a cell phone while driving can be fatal. Several states have enforced driving laws that restrict and prohibit using the device while driving. Driving requires ones attention at all times and when using a phone the operator is not paying attention to the road but to the screen to read a text, send a message, or to end/ receive a call.
Unlike talking to someone else in the car, speaking on a cell phone demands much greater continuous attention which takes the drivers eyes off of the road at times and their mind from driving. As a driver, it is a major distraction to text without losing focus on the road. Also it reduces competence level to control vehicles, as well as increasing the response time to any danger. The risk of having a traffic accident while using a cellular phone can be the same as driving drunk. In addition, the probabilities of driver texting on the cell phone and getting into accidents are only getting higher.
