The True American Hero In James Fenimore Cooper’s novel Deerslayer, he illustrates the idea of an American Hero and shows the qualities that this person must acquire. Through the figure Deerslayer, Cooper creates an archetypal American Hero who depicts the many facets of Cooper’s ideas. Throughout the story Deerslayer always acts properly and bravely in the situations he faces. A figure that illustrates Cooper’s ideas of the ideal American Hero always stands up for justice, though he does not fight when one shouldn’t. Also, Deerslayer exemplifies this mentality by always doing the morally best things for society as a whole.
The old man who first changed his vote acknowledged this admirable transformational leadership quality when he commented: “it is not easy to stand alone against the ridicule of others. He gambled for support and I gave it to him”. A transformational leader is a role model: • He powerfully modeled having a thoughtful, investigative and inquiring mind to the rest of the jury members by re-examining the key evidences of the prosecutor and the 2 witnesses. Other members of the jury soon followed his example and started raising “reasonable doubts” which led to a unanimous “Not guilty” verdict. • He Frequently reinforces that the burden of proof is on the prosecution and that if there is reasonable doubt, then they should acquit the kid • This character has a very clear idea of what the goal is here.
Plato said, “A hero is an ordinary individual who finds the strength to persevere and endure in spite of overwhelming obstacles.” Homer’s The Odyssey is no exception to this idea. This theme of heroin figure is focus and portrayed by the main character. A hero definitely has to be brave. Via Gregory Peck’s matchless acting in the movie variation of the novel To Kill A Mockingbird, Atticus Finch would undoubtedly be the figurehead who has most influenced me. As a man and a lawyer, Atticus envelopes everything that is good in society-he stands tall in what he believes, and he summons to contest the County’s racial spate while maintaining a home of morals and values for his two kids. After watching it, the one thing that impacted me the most was the relationship of Jem and Scout with their father Atticus. With them Atticus is nothing but honest, and never tries to lessen the acerbity of situations with promises –an ability that many parents today lack. He treats his kids as if they were adults, he gives them the respect all
Jim’s actions are exactly the opposite with what the reader is led to expect from the description of Jim and his fondness of meat. These ironic events depict Jim’s desperation, and unpredictable selfish nature. Jim believes that he can successfully deprive himself of eating meat in order to be satisfied sexually. The most ironic part of the story comes when Jim agrees to go with Alena on a “Turkey liberation mission”. While Alena thinks about “Turkey liberation mission”, Jim in contrast is thinking about inviting her to his mother’s for a turkey dinner.
They’re rich and powerful. They promise good quality food at their restaurants, but instead their food harms others. Ads produced by fast food chains completely wash kid’s minds, making them believe some of the most ridiculous things. Workers that process they’re meat are taken advantage of and abused. The Characterization of Jack Potter In Stephen Crane’s “The Bride Comes to Yellow Sky”, Jack Potter, seems to be a quite simple man. Jack Potter is the marshal of the small Texas town of Yellow Sky to which he is also very dutiful to his town when trouble arises he is always there to save the day. An example of this which shows another of his traits is when the town drunkard starts a shooting frenzy in the street; Jack is always there to make him back down showing that he is very firm to Scratchy. Thematically, I think that this story says take advantage of the little things in life. Throughout the story Jack Potter showed that he is indeed a very simple living man.
