Old Yeller Thoughts Throughout Old Yeller I have noticed how truly lucky Travis is. The book describes the relationship between Travis and the dog. It shows how Old Yeller helps Travis correct many of his mistakes. Old Yeller came to Travis right after his dad told him he needs a dog. After the dog came Travis tried to push the dog away, but Old Yeller was to smart for him.
He tells of a time when Argos was trained by his master to be a great hunter of wild goats and other smaller game. Further he touts the dog’s bravery, strength and speed. Although he never got the chance to hunt with Argos, this can be seen as a representation of Odysseus because, as a great warrior and leader himself, he trained Argos to be as such in the way of hunting. It is as if Argos was a piece of Odysseus that he left at home, the care-taking, responsible and hard working protector and provider. It would not be prudent to expect this of his son, Telemackos, due to his youthful age; it was only a purpose
This type of friend, in either category, knows when what’s being asked of them is too far; they are also those who want to see the best in you and will always be by your side, even when the going gets tough. Most of all, a true friendship is a mutual symbiotic relationship and it’s these relationships that are an essential part of life because friends help us through tough situations, they offer hope make someone feel worthwhile. Many books and/or short stories try to capture the importance of these relationships and in any form of literature we see either healthy friendships or ones that will never last. The last three pieces that we, as a class, had to read we were able to see how “friends” interact and how friends are supposed to act based upon the teachings offered by Aristotle on the subject matter. All three of the texts of “Melvin in the Sixth Grade” by Dana Johnson, “Book IX” by Aristotle, and “The Man who was Recklessly Curious” by Miguel de Cervantes are written on the subject of friends, however all portray their message in different light.
CCI determined that Astro’s temperament was best suited to work in a public setting and placed him at the Dawson Place Child Advocacy Center to work as a facility dog. He usually makes the visit to the advocacy center or the courthouse a pleasant experience. Astro’s greatest strength is his ability to calm and comfort others in stressful situations. Astro provides emotional support to all those involved in the criminal justice system.” Argument # 2) dogs might effects juries in the courtroom * Defense lawyers argue that dogs my unfairly have some effects with their cuteness and empathy, and dogs might have an effect in the juries emotions. Juries are highly educated and are professional people’s to be emotional in their judgment.
Another trait reflected in ET and Elliot’s friendship is loyalty. Once ET learns to speak English, he tells the kids that he needs to call home. ET built his communicator device but it only works way out in the forest, so they had to plan out an entire night and Elliot had to risk being caught by his mother just so ET would be able to go back home. This shows true loyalty because Elliot is putting a lot on the line for ET. Another example of the strong loyalty the kids have towards ET is when they sneak ET out of the hospital to get him back to his communicator.
Aragon’s trustworthiness gets the Hobbits as far as they can go before getting attacked by the Black Riders. Gandalf leaves a message for Frodo which says to trust Aragon and that, “All that is gold does not glitter” (Tolkien 193). This clearly states that Aragon may look like a ranger and bad but he really is a good guy who can be trusted. Aragon shows his leadership quality throughout the journey of the Fellowship. He leads the Hobbits after he joins them at the Prancing Pony.
Fair gives you the idea of good, light and angelic. Ralphs values and intentions are normally good. He is always trying to get rescued, taking care of the littluns and trying to make shelter. He is caring and you see that in his leadership skills. While Ralph is out hunting with some of the older boys including Jack he says “We can’t leave the littlunss alone with Piggy all night” (page 104).
Of Mice and Men Essay Loyalty “So much of what is best in us is bound up in our love of family, that it remains the measure of our stability because it measures our sense of loyalty. All other pacts of love or fear derive from it and are modeled upon it,” said Haniel Long. This is a quote that shows that loyalty of family comes first. Would you shoot your friend in order to protect him? In Of Mice and Men, Steinbeck argues that being loyal is a valuable concept in life, but can sometimes be very difficult.
The Courage of a Man Is being courageous really worth risking said physical well being or social outlook? Really courageous people risk everything for others. In Harper Lee’s To Kill a Mockingbird, Atticus Finch takes that risk. He takes the Tom Robinson case when he knows that they will lose, and does everything in his power to prove his innocence. Bob Ewell spitting in Atticus’ face does not faze or provoke him into lowering himself to Bob’s level.
“You just hold your head high and keep your fists down.” Pg 76 Atticus is teaching his children to be proud of who they are and turn the other cheek, by not starting fights. I select this quote because it teaches family values. 5. "This time we aren’t fighting the Yankees, we're fighting our friends. But remember this, no matter how bitter things get, they're still our friends and this is our home" Pg 76 This quote shows us that Atticus does not want his problem (defending Tom Robinson) to become a problem for Scout and Jem.
