The Positives and Negatives of the Media’s Influence on Teenagers in Society Do you ever think about the images the media portrays on sexuality, body image, and behavior? Big name businesses spend thousands of dollars producing great ads, commercials, and spreads to promote their products. This creates an image that many teenagers like. The many different aspects of the media such as television, movies, magazines, and music are some of the ways companies get to teenagers. These companies will use beautiful models, sexuality, and bad behavior to make it more appealing to the younger crowd. Little do these companies know, the promotions they produce influence the youth. They add these ideas to the everyday lives of teenagers. Many youth believe that what they see on TV, what celebrities sing about, and the image music videos portray are real and catch their attention, making it seem normal to be this way. Teenagers allow the media to influence them so they hopefully become popular and well known. On the other hand, not all aspects of the media are negative. For example, Sesame Street and Dora the Explorer are some of the positive examples of television shows. These shows help many children learn their ABC’s, 123’s, and different languages. Looking at some of the pros and cons of the media will help people understand how much the media can affect the youth and how we can help the youth overcome these influence. Some of the cons of the media are the negative images it portrayed. The negative images can come from television, magazines, music videos, and song lyrics. Based on results from the media survey, content analysis of the sexual imagery in the four deterrent media was conducted.
