In today’s society, teens are faced with images and fashion trends from the media. They are pushed to wear what everyone else is wearing through television, movies, the Internet, and magazines. Media defines Popular culture, what the trends are, what people should wear, how they should act and what they should be listening to. Everywhere we look, women are set to be beautiful and sexy. As a new mother, I worry about my child and the pressures of it all. She is growing so fast. I am scared to blink; in fear I could miss something. I’ve seen with my eyes how young children adopt different behaviors just from watching certain television shows. I have also seen how the media affects teenager’s personalities and fiscal activities. Popular culture holds the power to tell children what they should want and/or be in life. Popular culture is intelligent. It targets the basic needs for kids such as self-esteem, society’s acceptance, and beauty. I feel that the media plays a part why young men choose to use steroids, in hopes of being like that famous athlete on television or billboards. I believe the covers of magazines and television may play a part in young girls who develop eating disorders and even drug use. It is almost as if the media teaches children and teenagers that if ones wear certain shoes and clothes someone will be happy. I feel that our young people will lose their identity and forget what is really important in life. I feel that their values will become destructive. It is as if they are being seduced by popular culture. This can also affect all types of people’s personalities and economic actions. In conclusion, I hope that parents will not buy into this seduction nor will today’s children and teens. I hope they will
