A history of the Little Paper Family • Professor Irvin S. Fusfeld published “A review of the Little Paper Family” in 1944-1945 • All of the papers were started as a means of instruction in printing, so they could keep the parents informed with general information and progress of their children. It was also created to keep the alumni in contact with their school and also give an outlet for creativity. • The first paper in school for the deaf was published in the Ohio School in October 1868 and the paper was entitled The Mutes’ Chronicle and also another paper titled Vis-à-vis. “The Little Paper Family” is also known as “The Little Paper Fraternity.” • The papers dealt with questions concerning the education of the deaf, presenting problems and answers that were calculated to improve present day conditions. Introduction • The subject chosen for the review of The Little Paper Family were picked to better the education of the deaf. • While selecting the articles from the different papers two things were kept in mind, the first being the ones most interesting to the educators of the deaf and the articles that contained worthwhile ideas and information. • The author hoped the writing of “The Little Paper Family” would provided interesting information and benefit the research worker and the educator of the deaf. Athletics • Deaf athletes are still trying to make good in the major leagues. • Zipp Newman of the Birmingham Age-Heral wrote in Baseball Digest for October 1944 that Richard Sipek will be given a tryout with the Cincinnati Reds of the National league for Baseball. • In November 1944 an Indiana paper reprinted the article and mentioned that Sipek is a product of the Indiana School for the
