“Repetitive behavior involves repeated movements and verbalizations. These include motor movements, persistent attention to parts of objects and strict adherence to routines.” (Turnbull A, Turnbull R, Wehmeyer M, Exceptional Lives Special Education in Today’s Schools 2010). Now, with students who have autism it is very important to have a good simple routine and stick to it. And it is very important to tell them about a change at the beginning of the day rather than waiting right up until it is supposed to happen. Sticking to a routine will help things to not be so chaotic when it comes to transition time and telling the student about a change will help that student deal with that change before problem behavior can occur.

One example is to follow directions in the classroom or anywhere. A teacher may tell a student to take a seat or even get in line; it is predictable for them to follow the rules. A teacher should not ever place hard problematic situations on their students, especially young children. You really cannot imagine children who range the age of seven thru eight to grasp the information as teenagers can do.

We have age limits and restriction on many things, but why does are education system expect these young kids to make the right choices, ask for help and develop good study habits on their own. Our education system needs a new approach to resolve these issues. Teachers and parents need to be held responsible, for how well these kids do in school. We need come up with a new plan so these students aren’t left lost and helpless. Flunking students can be used as a positive tool by our education system.
It is the schools responsibility to be able to provide good enough teachers, who can prepare these students. In order to have a good education, there must be qualified teachers there to teach and prepare students effectively. Bauerlein questions schools curriculums and the way they are presenting “complex texts” (Bauerlein) to the students; “The more high school teachers place complex texts on the syllabus and concoct slow, deliberate reading exercises for students to complete, the more they will inculcate the habit” (Bauerlein). Students learn what their teachers tell them they have to learn, without knowing the effects the teachings will have on them whether good or bad. Peggy Orenstein proved this in her essay, "Learning Silence: Scenes from the Class Struggle," in which she did field research in junior high schools interviewing and observing the interaction of teachers to their students. I think the reason teachers unknowingly give more attention to a particular gender is because of the way that the teachers were brought up to think. The roles of each gender have already been laid out and embedded in the minds of the teachers from their own teachers and parents while growing up. I think that teachers have many preconceived notions of the gender relations of their students. The teachers unknowing pass the ideas that they learned as a child onto their students, who also do not realize that it is being done to them.
Gatto is saying that schooling is made for kids to adapt to; it has adaptive qualities, therefore there is a chance for everyone to succeed if they really want to, but it takes away from any individual thinking. Conforming is another evil of school because it makes us forced to learn things we really have no interest in and as Gatto states “its intention is to make children as alike as possible”(153). A lot of students use this excuse while they are in high school “when am I ever going to use this again in life” ill be honest I have said it before but I don't necessarily agree with these students because you need to build a base education before you figure out what you want your schooling to focus on. Erik Corrigan Politics & Multiculturalism A. The title of this work is Beyond the Knapsack by Peggy McIntosh. The title in this article is helpful because it explains that kids in class just go through the motion but this article explains how she tries to get more students involved rather them just not raise there hand and not participate. B. The topic and issues of this article are that kids in school are not participating in class as much as they should and then they aren’t learning the material they are supposed to.
For example, the most effective method would be, to respect the students and their feelings before they can respect you. Dr. Michaels stated that, “You will gain respect by knowing the emotional, physical, and psychological place of your students. “Show that you care.” This all leads back to students wanting to know that their teacher not only cares about their education but them as an individual. As an after school instructor, I have dealt with many cases where a students didn’t feel like they had to show me respect right off the bat. Which is something that I can understand, because children don’t really comprehend the importance of respect or manners, its something that has to be taught to them.
