Wade Michels The Game of My Life 9/3/13 This game was a huge one and one that nobody would ever forget, especially me. It was my first year of pitching varsity baseball for the Oelwein Huskies. However, it wasn’t my first game pitching varsity that year, but it was my first big game situation against the red hot Decorah Vikings who in the last week were averaging about 15 runs a game. Was this the night that the Decorah Vikings got upset by the Oelwein Huskies in 3A high school baseball? It was one hot muggy night and going to be tough playing conditions for both teams.

Pitching is the biggest attribute a team can have going into the playoffs. A team that can limit the amount of runs scored by the opposing team the better chance of winning a game. For example the 2005 Astros were able to out pitch the opposing teams to get to the World Series. The 2005 Astros had one of the best pitching rotation in all of baseball at the time to led the them to World Series. Whichever team pitches better in the series has the best of winning.
Sixty years ago, Jackie Robinson became the first black player to play in a Major League baseball game. The day he stepped onto Ebbets Field on April 15, 1947 he broke the color barrier, and because of this, he encourages other to do the same for other sports. Without Jackie Robinson there would not be Muhammed Ali, Arthur Ashe, Magic Johnson, Michael Jordan, or Tiger Woods. Without Jackie Robinson, sports would be very different today. I know someone else may have come along and broken the color barrier, But that person could not have done it as well, with as much guts and grace, as Jackie Robinson.
I have been around baseball for literally as long as I have been alive. I was born in September of 1991 and watched the Twins win there second World Series from the lap of my dad. I have been playing baseball since I have had the oppurtunity which started at about the age of 5. Last summer I played for three different teams so baseball is a huge part of who I am. Without some form of salary cap to mitigate the large market teams from spending on player salary at will, baseball is allowing its smaller market teams and their fans as well as the national popularity of the game of professional baseball to suffer.
