The debate on October 3, 2012, President Barak Obama and candidate Mitt Romney held a heated match over several main issues that dealt with economic policies. Both candidates had a subject to attack the other with but in the end Mitt Romney’s performance against Obamas was aggressive and strong. The debate seemed intense at certain points by cutting moderator Jim Lehrer off, to cutting each other off. Romney’s aggressive tone made it assertive of what he wanted to say and very believable of what he was saying. The candidates had many stats to back up each position they stated, but their main goal was to appeal to the audience and aim to tell them of the plans that would boost the growth of jobs and the economy.
Yleen Lubin Period 4 12/15/12 Columnist Rhetoric Essay Conservatives believe that the government should actively promote social reform to increase individual’s well being. Liberals believe that the government shouldn’t have any say in the lives of the citizens and businesses except on moral issues. Liberal Ronald Brownstein uses logos and parallel structure to show how demographics helped Obama win the election. Conservative Charles Krauthammer uses parallel structure and figurative language to compare an Obama and Romney presidency.
Oxholm 1 Olivia Oxholm Cole AP Lang October 7, 2012 Civil Disobedience and Letter From A Birmingham Jail Comparison In writing Civil Disobedience , Thoreau attempts to motivate the American people to change. He stresses the responsibility of citizens to protest and take action against corrupt and unjust laws of the government. His angry disposition is obvious from the beginning through the fact that he chooses to start with the statement that “government is best which governs least” and takes it a step further to say that “government is best which governs not at all”. Meaning, that the most ideal form of government is one that enforces the least amount of power over its people. As for Martin Luther King Jr., he also writes to show
During George Washington’s term, Hamilton and Jefferson disagreed with each other’s views of how the government should run. Jefferson was very strict with staying and adhering to the Constitution, while Hamilton wanted to form new policies that would further progress the economy. Furthermore, foreign affairs such as beginning with the policies towards the French Revolution became a motivating force for influencing American politics. It had then seemed very obvious that these were factors that lead to the success of American politics. In the early 1790’s Washington was elected for president and Alexander Hamilton came along with him.
Ethos – Appeals to Authority and Credibility By Megan McIntyre and Jessica McKee Power is the most persuasive rhetoric. – Friedrich Schiller I’ve always wondered why candidates have to “approve this message”; I mean, if President Obama is on camera talking about himself, can’t I assume he approves the message ? Why does he have to state that he approves at the end? There’s certainly a law that governs what must be said at the end of a political advertisement, or else President Obama wouldn’t say exactly the same thing as every other politician at the end of an ad, but there’s also an element of persuasion at work here. By appearing on camera saying that he approves the content, the President is giving the ad credibility.
George Bush spoke the previous quote to other countries in order to force them to enter the war on terror with America. Using the either/or fallacy to corner countries with two options but only with one clear choice. Would Obama go to this level? In his most recent Inaugural Address, he tried to inspire hope in Americans. As Obama was already president at the time of the speech, he did not need to worry about convincing people to vote for him.
If a change is what United States is looking for that's what they will get if Barack Obama was president of the Country. It would be nice to have a change in the white house but racism shouldn't be configured in this
A Nation Divided: The Affordable Care Act of 2010 “We have to pass the bill so that you can find out what is in it, away from the fog of controversy.” -Nancy Pelosi at the 2010 legislative conference of the American Association of Counties (Holt, 2010) Making good on a 2007 campaign promise to bring about fundamental change, on March 23, 2010, President Barack Obama signed perhaps the most controversial health reform law in American history, the brain child of then Speaker of the House, Nancy Pelosi and Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV), known as the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act of 2010 (ACA), also deemed “Obamacare.” The law is designed to put all Americans under a single-payer or a universal health care
Due to the change in presidency from Obama to Trump, many policies that Obama established have come up in the Republican government on whether or not those laws should still be in place. Because the Democrats view immigration as something that should be protected and Republicans view immigration as something that needs stronger laws, there is a controversial discussion among the two. The Republican government is against illegal immigration and they provide Congress with ideas in order to convince America that illegal immigrants are not beneficial to the average working American; therefore, they provide all the reasoning they can in order to broadcast the drawbacks of illegal immigration. A study done by Carroll Doherty, bachelors in political science, shows how Republicans, more specifically Trump supporters, shows reasons why Republicans think illegal immigration is not beneficial for America. In Doherty’s study, he states, that among all of the strong Trump supporters, “59 percent associate unauthorized immigrants with serious criminal behavior,” and therefore do not benefit American workers (Doherty, 2016).
