In the film, Dadi is presented as the manager of the household because she is the one that assigns tasks to the women in the family. She is usually the one to settle disputes among her daughters and daughters-in-law and maintain harmony within her family. Dadi believed that women are meant to be submissive and work hard in the field and at home because that has always been the role for women in her generation. She also believes that women should serve the family by expanding it through child bearing. The women in Dadi’s family mostly dominate the agricultural process and distributions, and also care for the household.
They would only make the decisions for them “who could join up and who could not, where they could work, and when they could change jobs.” (Thecanadianencyclopedia) It was a tough life, but it was the only way to support their husbands when their off to war. Women working back home was great-replacing the men’s jobs, working for war industries, and raising their family. Even if the women didn’t sign up for the military, they worked hard in the Home front and tried to give us the best support we ever needed. Women worked really hard and made a great contribution in WWII that lead to an allied
For example, when a male give someone promise, he should try the best to keep his word and maintain a good credit. Let me bring up another example, man should also be responsible to their family. Personally, I think a man should have a job and earn money. It is not a must to be a breadwinner, but at least man should do some contribution to his family. Another major factor that I think a man should have is tenacious.
“This is how you iron your father’s khaki shirt...” (Kincaid 200) is a pa chore that you don’t see many woman nowadays doing (especially for their own father). In earlier times it was very common for the woman in the house to do all of the chores for the men in the family. They would cook and clean simply because they were expected to, whereas now in the 21st century men and woman both take on the responsibility of taking care of the household
Before World War I, women had few rights. But their experience in the Great War changed that forever. Their views towards life changed or improved, and by the middle of the 19th century, women were demanding equality with men. They wanted the right to vote in elections and an equal chance to work and get educated. They also wanted the right to have their own possessions, to divorce their husbands, and to keep their children after divorce.
Many women have made a huge impact because of the jobs they have had. For example, Hilary Clinton she is the secretary of state. She is a woman, and she has made an impact in the U.S.A. as we know it. Now that women are able to get jobs, men don’t have to do twice the work because they have help from their wife. Besides that usually women work, take care of family and homes.
but the fact that most of these men are in two-career couples will mute some of the depressing elements of their unemployment”. (Holahan 158). Most men want to work for the satisfaction of being the men of the house. Many feel weaker if their wive’s are earning their income. It’s untraditional for a woman to take care of the family, but these are stereotypes that are being crushed by the feet of women in the workforce in today’s society.
The Role of Women in USA Women have changed from the past 100 years because they used to be housewives now they are saying their own opinions and standing up for themselves. Women are showing great responsibility that they can work as hard as men and get jobs and make it a career. Since men told their wives to cook, clean and take care of the children, women haven't be able to get paid when they apply for a job since 1920's. I believe that women have different qualities to men. Even though men usually get jobs, some women have standards that reach what a company is looking for.
Public patriarchy encompasses the domination in the institutions of the larger society. How does gender in your household affect your home life? “Being a female and a mother, I seem to do the majority of the housework. I take care of the children more than my husband, whether it is getting them to appointments or making appointments. I help them with schoolwork, and I do the majority of the cooking, and cleaning.” It’s hard to undo centuries of women’s and men’s roles in a couple decades.
There are numerous areas which women have contributed too and countless struggles that they overcame which support the need for such radical and critical reassessment. One of the many struggles that the women of the frontier had to overcome was the stereotypical role of being the housewives. Many of the women had to endure strenuous domestic responsibilities. As the wives of the house hold they cooked, cleaned, washed, and repaired clothes as well as looked after their children. They managed the kitchen, garden, the orchard and the dairy through which they kept their families fed.
