The Great Gatsby is a novel by the American author F. Scott Fitzgerald. It's about a man who has fallen in love with a woman, but when they meet, they are unable to be together at the time. A few years later they meet again and Daisy has married a man called Tom. Gatsby then tries everything to get her to fall for him and leave Tom. He ends up buying a house close by where Tom and Daisy live and has parties every night in her honor to try and impress her. He is part of the newly rich where as Daisy is part of the old money and so this separation is the main seperation between them both. There is a lot more to it than this, you have to read it to really understand it. It's a pretty good book. I think the words great and Gatsby work together for a few reasons. First, Gatsby aspired to greatness and Nick feels that Gatsby's "endless capacity for hope" makes him greater than everyone else. For instance greater than: Daisy, Tom, and Myrtle. He's a wealthy man of power. He's the "Great Gatsby." It basically says it all on the title. The book is based on how his greatness came to be throughout the whole book and how he took advantage of his greatness. Finally, nobody would have read a book called "Gatsby." The word great makes it seem a bit more special. It gives it that one touch of making it an interesting book to read. What is more captivating of the title is that it's simple but with a lot of meaning to it. It defines the person inside the story. This is my belief in why The Great Gatsby is given its title. It's front cover although maybe something certain people wouldn't understand. Overall the story is a great book as well as it's title. As you read through it you will get more into it than you think.
