Is Gatsby Great? “Every great man, every successful man, no matter what the field of endeavor, has known the magic that lies in these words: every adversity has the seed of an equivalent or greater benefit.” To be great, one must be considerably above the normal or average to an extent or intensity. In the novel, The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald, the main protagonist Jay Gatsby is portrayed as a great man through all the wonderful and heart wrenching things he’s done. Gatsby’s greatness is below the surface, in order to understand the man himself, one must truly be intrigued by all his riches and want to know the core of this enigma. Even though Gatsby is a man who believes that lying can win people over, Gatsby’s greatness originates from

Active reading, critical thinking, and the writing process shows you how to read authors work properly, how to analyze, and discover and really take a deeper look at the authors words in a different way. Its helps you to find evidence beneath the text and find a new meaning to what the writer is trying to portray. Active reading is reading an authors work and examining it, and looking at how they are thinking. It is looking at and reading how others write, and at the same time comparing it to the way you write.
Gatsby, A Romantic Hero? In the book the Great Gatsby, F. Scott Fitzgerald portrays Jay Gatsby as a man willing to do anything for his one love, Daisy Buchanan. The reader, however, doesn’t know Gatsby very well yet and only knows him buy the rumors that surround him. Gatsby is said to be a man who had once killed someone, a German spy, a bootlegger, and others too. No man or woman that attend his weekly parties knows the truth about Mr. Gatsby.
Love is one of the relationships that is portrayed in “The Great Gatsby”. A man named Gatsby who had went from being a poor man, became very rich. The only reason why he did all of this was for a woman named Daisy. Daisy was the women that he loved from the start, she is his dream, but since Gatsby had gone overseas, Daisy had decided to marry a man by the name of Tom Buchanan, mainly because he was much wealthier than Gatsby at the time. After Gatsby had found out what Daisy had done this affected him and crushed him because Daisy could not wait for him and had married Tom because Tom was of higher class than Gatsby.
Although it is entertaining, the fast-paced plot, jumping from idea to idea, and the short chapters, makes the reader think that the author has some form of ADD and cannot keep his mind focused. This, quite obviously, detracts from the literary aspects of the book but allows it to be an entertaining, light read (of which, most famous literature isn’t). The twists and turns of the story are foreshadowed, like in that of a B movie, in which, any event is easy to determine beforehand. In my opinion, it is a poorly constructed book, filled with satire and hints of philosophy, which, altogether, makes it an original and interesting read. Considering the manner in which the previous chapters proceeded, I would have to say that in the next chapter or so an important event would occur, causing quite a bit of over-the-top drama.

Beowulf's unselfishness and unfailing loyalty gave him quite a reputation and much popularity with both the Danes and Geats subjects and their kings. Reputation is what motivates thanes to be loyal to their rulers. The more courageous acts they performed for their country, the better their reputation and popularity. Therefore their rank in the social ladder would increase as well. The fact that not all thanes could be as courageous and have so many heroic achievements for their countries and rulers is why Beowulf seems so ideal and extraordinary.
Tom punches her and breaks her nose. Nick also attends one of Gatsby’s extravagant Saturday night parties where he engages in conversation with Jordan Baker and an unnamed man who is later revealed to be Gatsby. Gatsby then requisitions Jordan, and tells her an “amazing thing” that she cannot repeat to anyone. After attending a brief lunch with Gatsby and his shady business partner, Meyer Wolfsheim, Nick meets with Jordan and learns the “amazing” story: Gatsby met and fell in love with Daisy before The Great War, and bought his West Egg mansion simply to be near her and impress her. At Gatsby’s request, Nick arranges a meeting between Gatsby and Daisy.
We are only limited by what we can imagine, and the worlds described in books, as well as other peoples views and opinions will help us expand our understanding of what is possible. By reading a written description of an even or a place, Books are different. The experience achieved through reading is richer and more personal, since the same description and the same word choice will result in as many different interpretations as there are readers.
