Plato describes a ship captain as bigger and stronger than any of the other sailors on the ship however he also say that this captain is a little deaf and short sighted. This ship captain represents the people as it is their job in Athenian democracy to make laws. This captain however has many of his sailors quarrelling as they all believe that they have the right to steer the ship, despite the fact none of them have been taught the art of navigation and assert that it cannot be taught. They then bribe the captain and conspire to get the helm of the ship and reward those that help them with titles such as able seaman; should any sailor not gain command of the ship they will attempt to kill he who has so that they can mutiny and take control. The sailors are the politicians who are only motivated by self-interest so only want control of the state of Athens.

Ender feels like his competition isn’t just against the other boys – it’s against the whole school. Ender isn’t a killer but a winner. Anderson tells Imbu, "Ender Wiggin isn't a killer. He just wins – thoroughly.” Anderson tries to tell Imbu that Ender isn’t really scary because he’s not a killer, just a winner. This seems like a slight cheat since what Ender is winning is a competition to the death.
The problem became worse due to the fact how Tom managed and treated his team. Tom was constantly questioning Brian as to why his performance was so poor and even when Brian tried to explain to Tom that he was working as hard as he could, Tom did not reason with him at all and told Brian that he needed to work harder and smarter. This lead to Brian feeling as though his work was not valued as he was the only assistant Tom seemed to focus on when he was angry. At the end of the assignment, the only key motivator for Brian staying on the assignment and not quitting was the $300 bonus that they were to receive upon completion. Below is a chart that illustrates each field
However even though Peekay is an outsider it doesn't stun him from becoming an outstanding student. Peekay still outshines everyone and reaches the top of the class. This was due to the fact that he kept fighting and didn’t let him being on the outside get him down. As Peekay grows he takes on a new type of camouflage, being the very best. Brother made him "swim until he turned blue, row until he couldn't lift an our" and made him rush wherever they went so "his face turned red and his eyes became glazed." (601). Brother was determined to return to school having a "normal" brother that he could not be ridiculed and made fun of for because he lacked skills that others had, or that he was different. Brother devoted a lot of effort into making Doodle normal in his eyes, and was determined not to let Doodle fail him. He worried more about what other people thought of his brother than what really mattered the most, which was Doodle
Some people who are feeling inadequate then see that person and begin to think they can never possibly be that thus giving up on that “thing”. Competition is there to improve us and if you don’t think that you can do a trait better then the next guy, success is obsolete. Competition is the only way for success in our society. Ender’s Game Essay In Ender’s Game, the colonel comments that Ender wins thoroughly. This is a sufficient explanation for why Ender hurts people, because when someone wins thoroughly, the person does not have to worry about fighting anymore, and Ender does not like to fight. Ender does not turn to others for help because he believes that nobody is going to be there to help him, because they know they are trying to make him stronger. Ender is not a killer, he just tries his best to win his battles in one, and in every fight he gets placed in, he does not know that he killed his enemy, it is only afterwards that he finds out. In the schoolyard, when Ender is fighting Stilson and knocks him down, he decides to “win it now, and for all
They have different ideas of how this is going to happen and what team work really means. Even thought the team is happy when they win the game, the coach gets upset, because Carly does not pass the ball. That to him is not teamwork. Cultural-Individual The coach has a hard time teaching to the students in a way that he thinks that it is best for them to learn. He finds that when he has them talk on the radio it is easier for them to verbally get their thoughts across, opposed to writing them down on paper.
This quote was beneficial during his coaching years to help discipline his players. The team had a reputation for winning so many games; but, he wanted to teach his players that building their character is more important than being seen as winners. It is merely what everyone else sees them as only. Mr. Wooden worries more about his students’ character than their reputation because character repeats champions not reputation.
