Opal Gonzalez Hum 250 Professor Anne Bard The Broadway play, “The 39 Steps”, which is playing at the Cort Theater, is a comical theatrical version of a complicated 1915 novel by John Buchan. In this Broadway show, a Canadian man on a holiday in London named Richard Hannay establishes his innocence in the crime of the murder of a mysterious brunette spy. He also tries to prevent a national secret from passing out of the country to “the enemy”, whoever that may be. In order to do this, Hannay discovers and brings to justice a ring of spies named “the thirty-nine steps”. Through his efforts, he met a blonde woman named Pamela, which helps Richard through all the journeys of capturing the spies. Everything was good and unforgettable. The theater is fancy, and the staff is pleasant and treated us great. The actors are amazing. In class, the professor spoke to us about actors having different roles in a play, but I never imagined that a whole play that required so many characters could have been perfectly done with only four. “The 39 Steps”, is a special kind of Broadway show. These four people change from character to character without losing the audience’s attention and enthusiasm one bit. These actors are so good that they even made the audience laugh without losing their attention on the theme of the play. This is very important in any type of show because actors always want to keep the audience interested and entertained.
