Terrie Hall, former smoker, has suffered severely from the effects of smoking. She did a commercial for the Center for Disease Control titled “Tips From Former Smokers- Terrie’s Ad”. The commercial began with a picture of Terrie in her youth then the sound of her voice began. This was extremely disturbing for me because her voice did not match her picture. she sounds robotic. The purpose of this commercial is to visually and verbally caution smokers as well as nonsmokers about the detrimental effects of smoking. Terrie showed how much her life has changed since dealing with the consequences of smoking without even stating that her life had changed. It was a form of reverse phycology, Terrie speaking as if her morning routine was normal or average, although what the audience is viewing was very much disturbing. While watching the commercial it seemed apparent why smoking is not healthy. Terrie knows that she is living proof why individuals should not smoke which establishes her creditability of the argument why smoking is not healthy (ethos). I’ve always heard as a young child my parents or even administrators at school telling all the children to “SAY NO TO DRUGS!” or signs that may say “DRUG FREE ZONE”.…show more content…
In hope that this once beautiful young lady can have an impact on their lives before it’s too late. Terrie was definitely persuasive in this ad without having to say stop smoking. I don’t feel there is a need for a logical reason why to stop smoking it’s just basic knowledge that it is not healthy just from the things you see around you each day. This ad over all appealed mainly to all of our emotions in some way rather you are a smoker or non-smoker. These are not actors; they are real people telling their real stories.
