Anisha Spellman Benchmark Assessment: Language Arts Unit Plan Grand Canyon University: EED-525 November 27, 2013 “Learning to read and reading to learn” is a quote that one of the schools in my district uses to help motivate reading in all students and their families. I believe reading is an important aspect of all lives. What exactly would the world be like without the reading? It is crucial that we teach this to all of the little children while they are young and trying to learn. The more they practice and the more teachers and parents instill this in their minds, the better they will become.
Finding what is most helpful for meeting the goals set out in the standards may be difficult for a new teacher. Setting high standards and clear goals for students help set them up for their future, make them feel valued and have a goal to reach for. Close-Reading is a careful and purposeful way of reading that help the students to actually comprehend what they are reading and in turn makes reading more desirable. Additionally text-based evidence aides in the understanding and comprehension by providing students with well structured and purposeful text. There are so many times in my life I wish I could go back to my early education years and pay closer attention to what I was being taught.
Utilizing Graphic Organizers in the Classroom ETT4 Task 1 Western Governors University When utilized in a classroom, graphic organizers can be a powerful learning tool. At first glance, what seems like words in a box can be underestimated. Looking closer, one can realize that it is really a high concentration of valuable information placed in an organized pattern on a page. Graphic organizers can be used to not only introduce and organize instructional content, but also to help students identify, organize and assimilate key concepts and related details. When first introducing to a lesson, a graphic organizer can be used to assess and organize a student’s knowledge on the lesson topic.
Using Expository Text in the Secondary Classroom Julia Ann Bonner Grand Canyon University Adolescent Literacy SED-535 Professor Mark Rowicki July 24, 2013 Using Expository Text in the Secondary Classroom The purpose of this paper is to define expository text and review some of the possible advantages and disadvantages of using expository text within middle school content area classrooms and why it’s important to our students reading comprehension now and in all their future academic and career endeavors. The paper will also explore five ways in which expository text is used to promote and increase the student’s comprehension skills in reading and provides examples of how different graphic organizers may be used with various expository texts. Definition Expository text is a form of writing whereby the main purpose is usually to provide information and facts in the most concise and logical way possible. It is also known as informational text and usually focuses on a specific topic that relays information directly relevant to that topic, without the additional irrelevant information that often decorates narrative text. Expository text provides an explanation of concepts and attempts not only to inform, but to persuade and explain concepts in an orderly and clear manner, often while connecting the relationships between ideas.
Unit 8: Use and Develop Systems that Promote Communication Be able to address the range of communication requirements in own role: It is imperative whilst working with children to be able to address the range of communication requirements within a school. Without communication methods and strategies confusion, miscommunication and assumptions can arise unnecessarily. Building a successful classroom environment requires effective communication strategies. It is proven that schools that have developed effective communication strategies are often very efficient when it comes to teaching students. I liase through many different communication methods with a range of people and departments within my current job role.
How can you apply what you have learned? One of the most valuable elements that I learned from the Political Frame Wiki is that each of the key players play a significant role in the political frame. Key players can include counselors, teachers and even janitors. What is important is that each key player is given an opportunity to utilize their strengths to provide students with an optimal learning experience so that they may fare as adults in the real world. They key players each play a role in helping students and the school as a whole to be successful.
