Snowy Owls Essay

The Snowy Owl is a white, thick bodied bird. It's a bird of prey, and hunts for its prey at night. This majestic feathery animal benefits man kind by eating mice, rats, etc. The way this bird survives in the freezing arctic temperatures is its luxurious coat of feathers and its fluffy feet. The snowy owl has a large, broad head and saucer shaped feathers around its enlarged, binocular visioned eyes. Their bodies are thick and their average length is 23in. They have a very upright posture and the often stand on branches of trees. Their coat is often white with brown feathers. These tough and fierce hunters of the night have strong, hooked beaks, powerful feet which have two toes pointing backward, and sharp claws called talons. These claws help them with catching their prey and hooking onto the trees they rest upon. These owls cannot move their eyes, they just point straight forward and they move their head to look around. They have three eyelids, one for blinking, one for sleeping, and one for keeping the eye clean and healthy. These birds have a productive way of life. When hunting for their prey, the locate it in the darkness by noise, and they have special. They mostly eat small mammals, but they also eat rodents, nocturnal insects, fish and other birds. So obviously, they are carnivores. They do not build their own nests, they use old ones, and if they cant find any old ones they go to trees, ledges, holes in the ground or they burrow.
